This building is a bit of a train wreck. The lowrise portion of Bay State Rd. is a cartoonish mess, but I see what they were trying to do in imitating the rhythm of historic townhouses. I give them a C for effort. But that highrise portion behind is so cheap-looking and devoid of depth and detail that it looks like the windows are punched out of cardboard. All the articulation that was shown in the original renderings is gone, and all we're left with is a conspicuously value-engineered series of intersecting boxes. A simple cornice could have worked wonders. I give them a D for that.
