Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

BU really needs to get rid of that awful ex-HoJo at 575 Comm Ave. Surrounded by new buildings it looks even worse than when it stood there alone.

Two Hotels that need to be replaced by something else:
1) Hojo @ BU
2) MidTown @ Pru

there might be a few others as well -- they seem as anachronisms -- almost worse than a big ugly parking lot in the core of downtown

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Add the Hojo on Boylston St. to that list.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Isn't there already a development plan for the Boylston Street one?

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Request authorization to establish a “demonstration project”
under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 121B, Section 46(f)
for the development of Boston University Cummington Street
Mall Project; adopt a “Demonstration Project Plan” which
grants the Authority authorization to acquire the various
parcels by an Order by Taking; to petition the Public
Improvements Commission for the discontinuance of the
Taking Parcels and, to execute a deed any and all other
documents necessary and appropriate in connection with said
Demonstration Project Plan and the Taking.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

I presume the “demonstration project” is a traditional "BU accademic box" i.e. about 8 to 12 stories andd slightly longer than it is tall such as the ones along the Turnpike or the ones along Comm Ave.

Note some are visible in the construction photos

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Modern steel frame construction is amazing:
fast
few people needed
safe

The problem is then what it takes to convert the frame to a building

Someone should figure out a robust, flexible, aestheticly pleasing system of modules that can be custom designed with computer assisted design tools, fabbed in a factory, shipped to the site and plugged into the frame

Then only inside finish work would be needed to finish the project -- note that this process is how modern ships are being built
