Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

who the heck puts out a rendering for a 47 story building that only shows the first 6 or so floors? Totally useless rendering.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

It's enough to get some tounges wagging, and not enough so the NIMBY's can't see what they fighting against. Let the height games begin!

The base looks kinda sharp- like a mini Lake Point Tower in Chicago.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

I take the rendering to mean that they have not a clue what this building is going to look like yet. If that is the case, they should forget about a 1/8th (I would say "half ass" but that would be 23 floors) ass rendering.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

I like what I see so far.

This is where I veer off from the rest of the crowd here.
Who care what is looks like from a mile away? How is this building going to effect the urban space it occupies? What is this building going to do at street level?
Unfortunately, from this small rendering, the answer is, "Not much"

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Not that we can see much of it, but the tower looks to be almost identical to the iconic Lake Point Tower in Chicago.

Please oh please I'd love to see something like this in Boston

Edit: Bos77 beat me to it

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

The Globe rendering IS how tall it will be, judging by past experience.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

^^WIN!

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Sounds OK to me as long as it isn't built out into the plaza that begins the Southwest Corridor park.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Wouldn't that require building over the train tracks? That would bring a whole 'nother world of bureaucracy and hassles for the developers that I'm sure they'd much rather avoid.

Anyway, they've never mentioned doing such a thing, so it should be fine.

It would be interesting to see it start off like the Lake Point Tower at the base, but then maybe it gradually torques and shifts itself into something much more flowing and aerodynamic as it rises.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Your hoping they have heard of Jean Nouvel or Santiago Calatrava?! How bold for Boston! :)

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

Off topic:

Does Calatrava have any work in Boston or the Boston area? Surely one of the schools must have hired him for something?

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

^ Nope. Perhaps one of his sculptures showed up at a show at the ICA. His first big work in the States was in Milwaukee. Prior to that high-profile commission, most of his work has been in Spain and France.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

He designed the new Chicago Spire being built in Chicago, obviously. Think Boston is ready for a spiral tower? It would be interesting. A nice contrast to the boxiness of Boston.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

I've visited his Ciutat de les Arts i les Ci?ncies in Valencia... not the best location for such a structure, but it was stunning. I'd like to see him leave his mark in Boston but not in the same way the Gehry did with the Strata Center.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... His most famous tower to date is probably the Turning Torso in Sweden.
