Copley Place Expansion and Tower | Back Bay

For what it's worth, I heard from a Au Bon Pain manager that the initial plan was to have them close at the end of October, but those plans have now been postponed until October 2017. Not sure if this necessarily means that there's a delay in the overall Copley Tower project or not.

Wouldn't be the first time, second time, third time, fourth time, fifth time......... This thread has been around since 2006, and the tower has essentially been rendered since 2008. (starts on page 8 of this thread)

With the snails pace and potential looming recession, I just hope I'm not the skyscraper-loving equivalent of all the poor schlub Red Sox fans who croaked in 2003.

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

This week's Back Bay Sun has a story on the recent community meeting regarding this proposal and features a new rendering on its cover.

The headline may seem a bit alarmist, but I found the reporting itself to be quite fair and objective. The Sun's site hasn't been updated for this week, so the article isn't online yet.

Looks almost like the Trump Tower in Chicago.

Come-on Jahvon -- if you are going to get political -- we need equal time for the minor candidates as well

I would bet that you would never never here Bill Welds say something like it looks a lot like Gary's Johnson ;)

He's not wrong, you know.

Not nearly similar enough to draw a straight-line "inspired by...", but probably couple degrees of inspiration separation from a similar progenitor.

F-Line -- I could go for some ancestors in common back a couple of architectural-fads ago

However, I'm more into the Collision Theory that seems to be the rage these days in all things exoplanetary

I think in some dim dark corner of some architect's mind there was a flash in the middle of the night [maybe after one too many craft brews?] or possibly after a hit by a cosmic ray

Anyway-- in that flash of inspiration

Mrs Pru [aka 111 Huntington] after one-two many weight watchers Turbo shakes -- left her Hubby and came careening into 200 Clarendon [aka the house of falling windows]. Only in her collision and rebound she lost her tiara, slimmed down, got a bit taller, and gained a whole lot of extra glass which fell like dandruff from the former Mr. Hancock [now reduced to a mere street address]

et Voila

Alternative Collision Theory -- similar to the new theories about earth's moon

International Place get's hit by shock wave from rejection of the original plan for the Aquarium Garage -- the shock separates IP1 -- the Don's main "Shaft"
johnson10.jpg

and Ip-1 careens across Boston and collides with JHT in a somewhat glancing collision -- after the dust settles the now somewhat slenderized and a bit taller former IP-1 continues to move west -- Johnson's Palladian skin melts away and is replaced by spare windows falling like dandruff from the former JHT [now reduced to a mere street address]

Yes, that's nice. You addressed nothing whatsoever justifying your compulsion to attack Jahvon for alleged political bias.

Least you can do in pursuit of 2000 consecutive ad hominem posts is leave out the folks who are in no way asking for it.

F-Line -- Come-on -- down / off whatever your're drinking, toking, zapping -- it was a joke inspired by the use of Trump

If you had problems with that one -- I'm now waiting with baited, rebated, breath for your parry and thrust after my most recent "Collision Theory"

In no way was I being political, but...., the tower IS called the Trump Tower though. That has nothing to do with any political issue on my part.

Thanks F-Line for having my back.

Do we have an 'i'll be shocked if this gets built' thread??

Any hope the BPDA get a serious developer on this?

Javon -- What do you think of the Collision Theory? -- that's not political unless you are running for election on Mars :p

Talked to a guy who is in the know about the construction currently taking place to rework the "Back Bay Station entrance". He said 18 months, and only then would they close the Stuart St. entrance. I think it's safe to assume that during those 18 months, extensive reworkings of below grade mechanicals/stucturals will be done, but at the same time, his estimation puts completion of this tower at late 2020 at the earliest.
.

Check the date on my original post. I guess that he, and I, knew what we were talking about. This tower is going to be the latest, (but greatest). I put a crown on it more like 2022.

They just replaced the bushes around the horse sculpture with little shrubs. A move that says "hey, we aren't really excited about this area, because we we are going to rip it up, but hey, in the meantime, here is something whatever."

Not to say they are going "next cycle", because construction is full on....but this is a project that may well take 8-10 years.

Yeah according to several sources the 2 or 3 years of prep work has started with the first stage being the mall renovation, then stage 2 is the foundation for the tower itself. This is going to be a slow project. The Four Seasons Tower, the residential tower at Bulfinch Crossing and most likely the residential and hotel tower at North Station will probably be done or at least nearly done construction by the time this is expected to have above ground construction.

I wouldnt be surprised if 111 fed is built before sst and this even though its another notorious parcel. Millennium delivers lately.

Either way even if we see all those towers first the point is that doesn't mean this isn't "happening" right now it just won't be very visible for a long time.

Citylover -- that's good news for the construction junkies amongst us who need a site to visit on the street or we get into building site withdrawal

If all the current goodies are done and the rest a waiting for the next cycle -- we need a few slow ongoing projects to keep-us upbeat while the inevitable slow-down sets in fairly soon
