Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

The transformation is really quite amazing. It's busy in the evenings and on weekends when it used to be quite dead.
 
The Roche Brothers DC is consistently busy. Roche Bros usually are, but they did recently close the Burlington store (too much competition from Burlington Wegmans and Woburn Market Basket).

I dont think office admin staff are around when your flight at 6pm on Sunday got cancelled and you need to be rebooked ASAP before everyone else on the plane makes their way to customer service.

I'm not sure why this is such a big debate. Some smaller companies do this stuff in house. Coordinating travel is in the job description for a lot of entry level admin types. I don't think that anyone working for one of these companies will freeze in fear if their 6pm on Sunday is cancelled. They'll probably handle it because they have to. It's a known risk of handling travel in house.

But you're also right that there's still a major market for corporate travel agents for many firms. so it's not like its only one way or the other.
 
Illuminus Boston will be hosted this weekend (11/3-4) in Downtown Crossing. Its a fun event that premiered in the South End and followed in Fenway the following year.

It is inspired by Nuit Blanche in other cities. As I said its fun and a great way to get reacquainted with DT-Xing if you haven't been recently.

I walked over to DTX at 8:30 PM and I dunno while there was a lot of people around and some projections I felt like this wasn't very interesting? I saw a cool shadow thing over by Walgreens and a Tesla X series demo, but where were the rest of the exhibits? Did I just fail to look up or open my eyes?

I was disappointed :(
 
It wasn't as good as other cities around the world (less focused on projections), but this was pretty great. I had a fantastic time all by myself just watching the lights and people interacting with them & the urban environment of DTX. So much urban vitality in DTX!!

Yep I must be blind. I somehow missed almost all of that. Ugh I feel dumb.
 
Man, I wish some of these installations could be permanent... even if it was just the lights used to light up the exteriors of some of the buildings

It's just boarded up at the moment.

Also, this construction closed one lane of Milk St down to a single lane. It's safer now like this, but I think Milk should just get closed to cars at Washington entirely. That intersection is far too dangerous with the high pedestrian volumes and people have already died there.
 
For f*cking f*ck sake, that is terrible. I know landmark status was denied for 150-152 State, but seriosly, come on!! Who signed off on this as the replacement? I always found that bit of ye olde Tudor charm, even if faux historic, to be an endearing part of the State Street streetscape.
 
Will they be reapplying any of the facade detail that was evidently stripped off during the reno?

Edit: The "Elizabethan facade" was not original to the building. Built in 1899, the facade was added in 1911 when the building was "home to the English consulate". Still, historic enough; and unusual and attractive enough to preserve IMO.
 
The 4th floor's little pointy roof looks like they picked it up on sale from Home Depot.

I was walking through DTX last week and saw that the old Barnes and Noble location was still empty. How long has that spot been vacant? I feel like it has been 10 years.
