The finest cladding given to a Boston bldg since how long?
The 1910's?
1971?
Hat's off to Emerson for this reconstruction!!!!
Beautiful. How much are Emerson tuitions going up? Haha
Which begs the question, why in the digital age can we not get beautiful facades like this more regularly?
Good question. That should mean they can just program a cad model with blueprints for an original design and do all kinds of amazing things.
Scanning/CNC is going to be a great tool in the kit of preservers/restorers, and sculptural milling and printing will become more prevalent but it's not that easy to model or document from a design perspective. There aren't a ton of firms in the world who are capable of producing the swoopy sculptural stuff at a high level, though hopefully these technologies make their jobs a little bit easier.
It does feel though, that we're emerging from the dark age of "how do you draw/coordinate/construct a detail like that." Before that was the era of craftsmanship and hereafter will be craftsroboticism or whatever. But drawing this stuff is still hard.

Ha ... I posted before I saw this one. We are saying the same thing no?Because flat panels are even cheaper.
