Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

is this some kind of a joke or something?

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

There are plenty of other reasons for the Everett mayor to end up behind bars.

Everett has not had a decent mayor since Ed Connolly.

What are they doing on the 16 overpass right near Wellington?

These kind of made me laugh. Ive been to the wynn in vegas and this is funny to see one of those towers hidden behind some triple deckers and smoke stacks. It looks badass though its like the diamond in the rough.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

It looks kind of pathetic when it's not part of the Strip.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

In vegas its very colorful, so the brown stands out and looks good against the backdrop. Here brown is the color of everett so it just looks like everett in the sky.

I wasnt going to post this but to go with the theme of unimpressiveness, here is the greatest render in the the history of renders. Im not sure why someone would even take the time to make this and post it to their site where they are pitching the casino but.................

Thinking about it, its probably to show that it wont really negatively impact the view from within the park. Thats my guess.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Nothing more exciting than taking a vacation in a chintzy casino between smokestacks, railroad tracks, triple deckers, and a Costco.

Beeline -- if all the Greenies are right then in 20 years Wynn Jr can buy the old Boston Edison Mystic Station and make a "Bankside for Boston mega something " to go with the casino

+1----Are they building another overpass over the current bridge.

This does not look promising.
Where is F-Line for Dudley-- concerning this?

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I think they're just repairing/replacing the bridge guys.

Those renderings are solid gold - almost self-parody

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Yes, they're replacing the bridge (Woods Memorial Bridge).

And it gets bike lanes both alongside the road (for east-west crossing of the Malden River) and alongside the river (for north-south crossing of Rt16). It is a nice bit of re-knitting the network in the greater Wellington area.

Replacing all bridge spans over the Malden River, Rivers Edge Dr, Commuter Rail, and Orange Line.

As long as people don't check out the neighborhood on Google Earth before they book the vacation, we're all set. After all, the name already has them fooled into thinking that the Mystic river casino is actually in Boston harbor. Imagine the look of horror as they fly in from halfway around the world and see where it actually is. :)

Won't take an unreasonable amount of work to spruce the immediate area up to tourist standards. Sullivan Square and the immediate area of the casino just finally needs to move forward with some long planned redevelopment. Not for the casino sake, but maybe the casino dollars can be put to use.

Would be good if the taller old smoke stacks can come down like they have recently in Salem. I think the smaller three old stacks are just used for high demand if they are still used at all. The tall stack, if I recall my grade school tour and maybe an earlier discussion on these boards, can be used for oil or natural gas, so it likely still has some utility if the price of natural gas goes back up. Otherwise I believe the newer lower profile stacks are part of a much more efficient and less polluting natural gas generating system. Would be good if anyone had more info on the power plant operations or any future plans. Maybe Salem coming back online with new generation capacity could enable Everett to decommission the older facilities.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I am sure the Wynn media folks will get creative with the angles they use to shoots the photos of the place once it's done.

Whatevs. The whole point of these places is that once you're inside you're meant to lose interest in the outside world. A very large amount of design effort goes into keeping you from even noticing if it's day or night.

Yes, but... They do have to get people there and get people to come back. If the appeal is merely driving time, then CT and NH can just put casinos right on the borders on major highways and it undermines revenue. To get a broader customer base including tourism, then you do need to work on the surrounding area so it at least won't scare people off.

Wynn should be viewed as the first anchor tenant for redevelopment of the area, not the only one.

Tangent -- I believe that current operation at the plant is concentrated in the new highly efficient combined-cycle natural gas units -- as you identified the shorter thick smoke stacks, one of the older dual -fuel steam units [tall stack], and a fast reaction combustion turbine used for "peaking"
http://www.exeloncorp.com/locations/power-plants/mystic-generating-station

Mystic Generating Station is owned and operated by Exelon Power, a business unit of Exelon Generation. Mystic is an eight unit, 1,998 megawatt (MW) fossil power plant located in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
Mystic 8 and 9 are 2-on-1 combined cycle gas turbines. Mystic 8 has a capacity of 703 MW and Mystic 9 has a capacity of 711 MW. Mystic 7 is a 576 MW unit that is fueled by either natural gas or oil, depending on market conditions. Mystic Jet is an 8 MW oil fueled peaking unit which is run during periods of high demand. All capacities reflect summer rating.

As a point of reference the name-plate rating on the nearby Wind Turbine located at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) DeLauri Pump Station in Charlestown on the Everett line is 1.5 MW with a reasonable expectation of an average output of a bit less than 1/2000 of the fossil fuel plant

Funny how the street address of the station is in Charlestown because that sliver of frontage is Boston when just about all of the station is in Everett.

On the wind turbine, that is the unfortunate thing about wind and solar that it takes up a lot of real estate and a few scattered local turbines hardly make a dent in overall supply.
