Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I wish the city of Everett forced that strip mall to sell to WYNN in the best interests of the public concerning Infrastructure.

If you meant using Eminent Domain or the threat of it for Wynn, that is an absolute travesty. Government should absolutely not use or even have the power to take land for another private developer (fuck Kelo v. New London). Just because strips malls are suburbia and car-centric does not mean it becomes okay.

If you mean actual infrastructure, like some kind of connection between them, then that's different. That understanding doesn't fit to the fact you said "sell to WYNN"

Wynn has money, he can buy it out on his own if he really wants it. And there is no guarantee that if he did get the land that he would transform it in a way that is an improvement for us. Maybe we'll get Assembly. Maybe we'll get an Assembly that still a net loss (like a more urban area, but we losing Costco, Target, and Home Depot - there's no gaurantee we'll get an urban version of them, sometimes suburban stuff has it usefullness). Hell, didn't like 10 pages ago someone said there's rumors he wants a golf course?

Yes... Those stores are a critical asset rather than a hindrance to further development of the area.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

This first image is a lower floor but it gives an idea of what angle the skyline is seen from. Those upper floors are going to have a great view. I like this a lot, Wynn casinos are some of the nicest there are and I like that they took the design straight from their Vegas casino. Its going to be a top quality casino complete with Boston skyline views, if you gamble and your from Boston it doesn't get better than that. I cant even imagine the suites. Im not a big gambler, but a lot of people are and this just adds another piece to the Boston night life and entertainment sector. This adds even more to do in the city and thats great whether you gamble or not. Is there a venue inside of here? Like where they could hold a UFC or boxing fight, plays, comedy show....etc?

Edit: Remember this is what we could have had. This would have looked dated the day it opened. We dodged a huuuuuuge bullet here. This is what you would expect to go up in the 70's in Vegas or Atlantic city. Terrible.

A nice view of the assembly parking garages.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Why are those radial three-winged hotels so prominent in Vegas but rarely seen elsewhere? I figured it's to maximize the amount of rooms without blocking views but off the top of my head I can't think of any in the northeast.

Land is more expensive in northeast markets that support high rise construction. So: 1)it's tough to find a parcel big enough to support three long double stacked wings that's also ripe for a hotel (hotel because people don't want to walk down long hallways to their home). And 2) land is expensive so you need to maximize SF (not views) to spread the cost of the land over the total number of units.
So three winged buildings in northeast cities end up looking more like the Four Seasons tower at the Christian Science plaza.

I'm happy they're building the casino, but my God that complex is fucking tacky.

Driving on 93N this thing looks ENORMOUS and it's not even a 1/4 of the way up

Yea point 1 is why vegas buildings are so wide vs tall. If you make a building extremely wide you can fit a lot of rooms on each floor. To put a huge amount of hotel rooms in a normal building it would have to be extremely tall. Making the buildings extremely wide allows them to fit a lot of rooms without having to be extremely tall which saves money on construction costso. City center went against this a bit building taller towers but thats usually how it works. The 3 winged floor plate is another way to fit even more rooms on a given floor vs having to be taller.

Yeah---it will be a great marvel to look at as you sit in bumper to bumper traffic on 93 because of lack of innovation from the city & state, mbta on infrastructure improvements.

Traffic is insane around the surroundings of Boston now. Wait till the casino is operatable.

Non-traffic hours 3-5 am in the morning---to get things done. Hopefully Boston and the surrounding areas are open 24hours now.

The city of Everett you mean?

Yup, Aria is a perfect example of old Vegas style towers.

Then Veer towers, Cosmopolitan, Mandarin Oriental, and Harmon have thinner less Vegas-y aspect ratios. The Harmon was only built to half height before they realized a problem with the construction, topped it off as is, and is now in the process of being deconstructed.

In all seriousness, I don't believe this design is more dated than the current one in any meaningful way. Once you get past a certain point, dated is dated.

The old design above may be pure, unadulterated 1970s, but at least it looks like a casino from the late heyday of classic Vegas.

The current design is an insurance office in Atlanta or Irvine, circa 1995.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Haw high is the casino off the ground, 80-100 ft? Floor counting is misleading as the first two floors have super high ceilings.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

climbing frames were installed on the two tower cranes for the hotel, might see a jump sometime soon
