Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Re: Rose Kennedy Greenway

Sure it's not far, but it's insulting to think because Wynn dangles a new casino that it's going to turn people in the Boston area into Marge Simpson. I'm sure a chunk people will visit early on but after a while the sheen will wear off and it will be left with the typical casino base of rural old people and white trash. Which North of the city has plenty of...

What casino towns are actually doing really well aside from Vegas?

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Remember when they opened those casinos in Gary, IN and half the bars and restaurants in Chicago closed? That was tough.

The redeeming quality of casinos is that they are an entertainment option which when done well can bring in enough tourism to offset the concentration of wealth and loss to the local economy if the owners transfer that wealth out of the area. If they don't bring in enough tourists they suck money out of the local economy very predictably.

It is a gamble with a very clear downside, but with a hard to predict upside dependent on a lot of outside factors. Either way I think it will be fun to see. Probably not going to work out, but it could, at least the Wynn Casino. The other Mass casinos are pretty much just a big suck. Springfield could have had some potential for some tourism, with the Basketball Hall of Fame, but it is harder to see now with the scale back.

Well aren't you a snotty snob. Maybe they will soon build an attraction for overpaid high tech ivy alumni.

Re: Rose Kennedy Greenway

Don't forget the black, brown and yellow trash.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

If they can have some 24 hour options, it will draw people, but I doubt it would have more than a few nightclubs, live music venues, bars and restaurants. It all depends on the quality of the restaurants and bars that move in as well the promoters and musical talent (bands and DJ's) they bring in.

This place will make certain pockets of Boston up their game, but it will be healthy competition. The places that might have to worry are the casinos in CT. The Wynn could do a lot of damage to those places.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Possibly one of the worst ideas for the public transit that I have seen without researching & having real valid solutions for the traffic issues around the area.

This could be the nail in the coffin: LA Traffic here we come.
GOD I HOPE I"M WRONG

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Am I hallucinating, or did the casino and greenway threads get merged?

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I moved a bunch of off-topic posts from the Greenway thread over here.

Sorry for the confusion

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Only because I'm a glutton for punishment, could the resident Wynn expert (not Rifle, please) validate a rundown of what happened. All the articles on this seem to gloss over the complex back-and-forth with Somerville. As I understand it:

February: Somerville challenges legal validity of a environmental permit granted for the casino.

June: Hearing on the challenge

July 22: DEP approves the license and Somerville has several days to appeal

August 2: Somerville opts not to appeal but says it may take Wynn to court.

August 22: Deadline for Somerville to appeal in Superior Court. However, such appeal would not delay construction.

Foxwoods & Mohegan===RIP

I'd love to know what percentage of patrons go to those casinos from the NYC metro area vs the Boston metro or more local areas. However I do agree with you that the casino market is becoming saturated. Wynn does have the best chance to succeed because of it's location so close to the city.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Can't wait to see when it is built & open for business! Hah!
