$25 roulette minimum?

Oh my.

There were only $50 table minimums opening week. I think I heard about there being some $15 this week during the week, so perhaps it is settling down a bit. Peak times are always an issue though, even in Vegas the top casinos often go to $25 during weekend peak.

The minimum bets are always too high at stand alone casinos for the casual gambler. I like black jack but I'm not so good at it that I can count on winning or breaking even. A $25 minimum effectively puts the game out of limits for me, because I can very quickly lose what I'd budget for the evening's entertainment (ie how much I'm willing to lose), whereas a $10 table can entertain me for a few hours. You only get $10 tables in Vegas (where you can even find $5 if you look hard enough), but that's what they have to do to keep people in the room when there is another casino next door, across the street, etc. The casinos in New England do not have that issue.

$25 blackjack minimums can escalate quickly. Say you pull two 8's and the dealer is showing a 6. You NEED to split. Now you have $50 down. Then your first card from the split is a 3. You really should double. Now you have $75 down. Your next card after the double is a 2. You should double again. Now you have $100 down. This happens more often than you would think. I like to play but won't unless it is a $15 minimum or less. Sounds like Encore is not for me.

^^That's awesome about the women worker accomplishment!

I have an update to my post yesterday. I took my weekly ferry ride to the casino yesterday after work and, to my joy, the Craps Table minimum was $15. Victory! :)

Also, I went to the On Deck Burger Bar. For a restaurant at a resort that claims to "offer extensive vegan and vegetarian selections," I was pretty surprised there is no veggie burger available at the burger bar. The burgers looked amazing, don't get me wrong, but it was a genuine surprise to me that they didn't even feature the trendy Impossible Burger as an option on their menu. The Greek salad was good, fortunately. [shrugging shoulders]

Casinos on cruises, which have a captive customer base, have lower minimums

That is great to hear about the high level of female construction workers. In addition to the fact that they cleaned up a toxic site to build this bad boy and are creating a lot of jobs for local people.

Cleaned up might be strong right? Capping does not clean up, there is a whole ecosystem sub-grade that will continue to do its thing while we watch washed up rock stars and shove coins into machines (or cards rather).

I could be wrong, but I don't think they just capped at Encore. They carted away tons of material before starting construction.

Seems like more than surface remediation....

https://www.wbur.org/bostonomix/2018/05/17/wynn-environmental-cleanup-everett

The Las Vegas company says it recently completed remediation and cleanup work on the 33-acre waterfront site in Everett.

The company removed nearly 1 million tons of contaminated sediment from the site and the Mystic River over 18 months. The final price tag was about $68 million, or more than double the $30 million previously estimated.

Said Elizabeth Turnbull Henry, president of the Environmental League of Massachusetts, in a statement: "For decades, this river and sediment have been toxic and unwelcoming to people and nature. With the cleanup complete, we expect to see local communities, plants and wildlife flourish again."

Huh? What did they cap? I heard they spent upwards of $80m on remediation and hauling. That would be an expensive cap.

The Casino is remediated but looks like it was capped.

People may be confusing the fact that they built up the land (raising it atop the garage, and berming it so as to be above long-term sea level rise )--which has the land looking at lot like it was simply capped (which is what the nearby Target/Home Depot/Cosco did--a simple capping that explains the elevation change as you enter Gateway Plaza).

But, technically, I don't think they could have put the garage's floor at "ground level" if the ground beneath hadn't been hauled away and replaced

Yes, you missed where Cervik.Construction gave the definitive "they remediated" (hauled) answer, just above.

We told you so.

Casino traffic at Wellington "Pleasantly Underwhelming" (Medford Mayor says)
https://patch.com/massachusetts/med...ncore-traffic-impact-pleasantly-underwhelming

Nicely said. Although I thought opening weekend(s) would be a big test. Really it just got a bit bogged down in front of the casino itself. No more than about a ten or maybe 15 minute extra wait. The impact seems to have been about like rush hour for peak times. So not bad. And as we discussed the other than peak time traffic is really spread out over time so it is fine.

I still think that they should be building that pedestrian bridge to better address peak traffic times and special events as well as tie together the area and make sure the area can grow more.

Really if they can bring together the stakeholders to squeeze in that infill silver line/CR station that would be more about enabling infill at the gateway center and enabling more development on the other encore properties across Broadway, rather than mitigating existing casino traffic.

Wynn's New Massachusetts Casino: Not Quite A 'Win'

Summary

Wynn's new Massachusetts casino, Encore Boston Harbor, has sizable competition, and has significantly fewer amenities than that competition.

Sentiment from early patrons skews negative.

The location won't be Encore Boston Harbor's "silver bullet." It's not ideal, and it's unclear how much convenience even matters to New England gamblers.

We are projecting that EBH will fail to meet most revenue estimates, including the projections from Wynn itself.

Although it's unlikely that Encore Boston Harbor will be a significant catalyst for Wynn stock, we recommend a smaller gaming stock with large exposure to this new resort.

Very long piece analyzing each aspect.

They'll eventually tune to odds if its actually impacting business, but the other points are definitely err... on point.
