Fenway HoJo's Redevelopment | 1271 Boylston Street | Fenway

Has viewing this thread skewed anyone else's targeted ads to show Verb everywhere? It's almost all I see lately (not that I mind seeing an ad I might actually care about, but yeah).

No, oddly I'm still getting the ads for the hentai cartoon porn of the girl having sex with the tentacle monster.
Oh dear ... I've said too much ...

The quality sucks, I know.

So I talked to the valet guy since I didn't believe it would be open yet, but it is open and the August 1st date on the sign is for the official ribbon cutting and ceremony stuff. The guy also said the restaurant won't open 'til November.

I can't believe they left that shitty, yellowed sign.

Otherwise a very well done paint 'n polish. The place probably hasn't looked this good in decades.

Sign could be grandfathered in. Most residential neighborhoods won't allow a sign this size any longer. Sanofi tried at 640 Memorial Dr and gave up after fierce neighborhood opposition.

they had to leave it. If they modified it it would be subject to zoning review and would never get through.

Even if the grandfathering weren't the issue, we all suspect that they would have paid big bucks for a brand new hand-crafted 'authentic' 'weathered' look on an new version if they had to / could have

Can we change the title of this thread now?

I can't imagine the long-range plans still aren't to redevelop it. But with the Point, Landmark, Tasty Burger, and whatever else Samuels plans are in Allston, its been pulled off the back burner and thrown in with leftovers.

As for the sign, getting around design review makes a lot of sense. The yellowed plastic is still heinous though. Whatever, I'm nit-picking.

Im pretty sure they can change the yellow panes for white ones...

I think one of those Vegas style casino signs would have looked cool here.

Has Samuels got something planned for the Tasty Burger site?

I tried to capture the colored windows along Van Ness, but I didn't really get it.

I hope they have good windows. On game night it's going to be a loud couple of hours.

The van out front seemed new.

I was pretty skeptical at first. But give them credit, a clever architect and developer really turned this site around and presumably is going to inexpensively give them some great profits until it can be fully redeveloped.

I can think of another site nearby that might be perfect for a copycat refurbishment.

The restaurant in this hotel will be an izakaya (Japanese bar food) by the owners of O Ya. This is huge - it will be one of only three izakayas in the Boston area, and will add another non-sports bar option to the Fenway neighborhood. O Ya is one of the best sushi places in Boston, so I'm hopeful that this will be great as well.

There is already a sushi restaurant across the street (Basho). I would have hoped for some more variety.
