Fort Point Infill and Small Developments

LOL at the commenters on UHUB getting hysterical over these designs. God forbid they live in a city that occasionally displays some modicum of imagination.

My favorite submissions, in this order, subject to change upon further examination:

1. Re-Cord by Marco Goffi
2. WA Chair by Katsuya Arai
3. Bowsprit by Rui Chen, Christa Lee, Sanchit Mittal
4. Industrial Hotspot by Charles Burgess
5. The Wharf Bench by Jesse Shaw

My problem with some of these is... will people know they can sit on these? And if so, do they know how?

Re-cord? AWESOME! But who's going to say, "Oh, this is a bench, duh!"?

Also, I hope they put some of the 'Industrial Hotspot' benches in Paul Revere Park. Goes so well with the lead up to the pedestrian bridge!

Trust me, kids will know!! And if they don't know it's a bench, they'll figure out a way to have fun with it! Adult's, not so much! I'm the perfect example of 'not getting it' but with this, once I got it, it was, "well, how cool is that!"

There are people actually complaining about these magnificent benches? What a load of crap.

The kind of people who complain about a bench because it's not the standard issue faux-Victorian thing you can buy at your local suburban Home & Garden Center is why Boston can't have nice things.

Not the biggest fan of all of these bench's but I think that is the point here, and seemingly what the UHUB commenters are missing. Architecture is like Art some of these designs people may like, some you may not like, but Architecture is supposed to elicit a feeling, similar to art.

Some of the ones I really liked such as the "Wharf Bench", "Chroma Bench", and the "Seam Bench", may not be everyone's favorites. However at least you will get to experience the designs and appreciate the thought and effort that went into these benches.

By using such a simple medium as a park bench and asking people to think outside the box, you are making the concept of architecture as art accessible to more than architects, and architecture geeks (archboston included).

Two stunning Fort Point wharf buildings, not sure there's a thread for these...

Residence Inn opened recently at 370 Congress. Interior restoration including original tiles lining factory light well and catwalks is beyond belief.

What a unique and creative project! This is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Such amazing loft rooms! Heck, I live here, but I want to stay a night there!

Awesome hotel pics! Makes me realize how much FP3 missed the boat by going for sleek/clean/contemporary instead of embracing the buildings bones.

Anyone know who is filling the retail space in the Residence Inn?
