Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Huh. Didn't the developers make a big show of selling only to locals?

There are a lot of family's that do have a lot of money to be able to afford these units GW.

But the point is that they are clearly pandering to foreign investors. I doubt Asian-Americans avoid "4" floors like their counterparts in Asia do.

It doesn't matter in the end how floors are numbered in the elevators, but it's what it symbolizes that is troubling.

I'm not sure it matters if if owners are wealthy Chinese rather than wealthy Americans (neither are going to be inviting me 'round for drinks). I think it contributes to our cosmopolitanness (imagine that's a word) and, given that increased sinoization (imagine that's word) is inevitable in almost every facet of our lives, I think it's important that Chinese establish a rapport with the city.

Of course, maybe that's not what is troubling you in which case, nevermind...:)

I know what the point was data, I was simply stating that there are family's that have more than enough money, I should've clarified my reply a bit. I was meaning the family's that live outside of the city proper, but are still considered to be "local".

I am sure that they are saying that they are marketing locally, but keeping their options open to the fact that there aren't only going to be locals that are buying in this building.

It's been two months since we've seen a picture of this site...has nothing worthwhile changed?

I went down there on the 17th of January and there was nothing but equipment and gravel

The construction website was updated last week. They indicated that they are finishing up the deep foundation work. I would anticipate excavation to start very soon.

No visible progress as of Sunday. I actually took some pics but it didn't seem worth posting them.

I'm there right now and I'll echo that there's not really enough of any visible surface work to justify more pics...unless you have a thing for barely visible deep foundation work.

Semi-related, does anyone know if there is still signs of "site prep" type work going on at the Copley site?

Darn, stinks to hear there hasn't been much progress. This thing is moving at a snail's pace.

What's crazy, is that 30 Dalton went up in about 5 minutes. My desk stares at the building and it's been incredible. You have to think 1 Dalton will fly up once groundwork is done,

Progress:
Expected February/March Progress

Over the next two months we will be finishing the installation of the deep foundation and will begin excavation of the inner-foundation. We will be completing installation of the Slurry Wall panels and also the Secant Wall, and will be preparing for lateral support of excavation.

Some of the highlights of the next two months will include;

Finishing installation of our deep socket secant piles which tie into bedrock more than 160 feet below grade.
Finishing installation of slurry wall panels
Excavation and installation of our Buttress Panels
Removal of temporary guide walls
Begin excavation of site
Install cross bracing between foundation elements as lateral support of excavation.

This isn't really going any slower than similar sized projects around the country or even in Boston. Millennium Tower went a bit faster but only because the foundation excavation had already been started. It will be much faster than Copley assuming work for the foundation is actually happening like it appeared to have been according to someone who posted on here. So I wouldn't complain about this being slow personally.

@Datadyne, thanks for the info!

@CityLover, you may be right--I think I'm getting influenced by just how fast 30 Dalton went up.

That's a long way to bedrock.

In Manhattan, bedrock south of 14th St is generally between 60 and 90 feet. From about 20th St to Central Park South, its generally under 30 feet.
