Actually started last week...

Also they're expanding the pilot of e-ink arrival displays to bus stops and surface level green line stops after finding them quite successful, but have to add an audio component to meet ADA laws.
 
Annnnnnnd AFC 2 got removed from next week's meeting agenda... Again... For the... 5th time? I've heard whispers of ongoing litigation with cubic and various lawsuits...

Well, so much for that in the next year or two.
 
I can't tell if our standards have really dropped this much or if it's just a typo because I saw this posted on the MBTA station brightening thread today... we can't seriously be setting that as our standard of cleaned and repaired right?

I bet it was a brand new mop they sloshed the side walls with, though.

But seriously...as bad as that "clean" photo looks it doesn't do any justice to just how much those stairs are now sagging in the middle. As painful as it was when they closed the center-platform stairs for resurfacing it's nothing compared to what kind of hell on earth it'll be when they have to take each Red IB-side staircases offline for reconstruction.

I sometimes wonder if the MBTA has ears in our forum... Caption was replaced today, thankfully looks like it was a mistake, was really getting worried there. Can't wait to see the results of the full weekend shutdowns in October...
 
They are currently redoing the stairs at Park Street that connect the RL and GL platforms. What they are doing is shutting down half the stairs and redoing those and then shutting down the other side for repair. They have already completed one side of the stairs and it's a huge improvement. No more sagging. This was obviously a mistake. If I remember I'll try to snap a picture of the new half of the stairs tonight as I go back home.

On another note, they are fencing off other portions of Park street which I assume are for repairs.

Park Street is an accelerated reno this fall. I don't think it's just the brightening.

If the Hynes Convention Center redevelopment goes through, what could the Green Line stop get renamed to? The Orange Line stole the Mass Ave name so there really isn't anything to go back to.
 
Newbury West

(pet peeve of mine is when a transit stop has a name identical to a street name when it would have been simple to add an additional modifier - especially when the streets length spans that of several transit stops. Mass Ave on OL sorta/kinda works because the OL's directionality is so clearly perpendicular to Mass Ave.).

I don't like Newbury Street alone because Copley and Arlington stations are also close to Newbury Street. Mass Ave alone wouldn't be the worst thing (Chicago has six Western stations, and numerous other duplicates, and people get around just fine); Mass Ave/Newbury would be clunky. Perhaps (in conjunction with daylighting the Muddy River) Charlesgate?

Mass Ave / Newbury
Newbury on Mass
Newbury and Mass
West Newbury Street
Charlesgate
Back Bay West
Back Fens
Charlesgate Park
Charles on Mass
Mass on Charles

Some options; I personally like West Newbury Street or Newbury on Mass... when Parcel 12 fills in and Newbury is extended a bit and whatever happens to Hynes, this will fill in a lot and send a lot of people down to this end of Newbury. I think its rather important to include Newbury in the name, from a tourist perspective. I think in 10 years whenParcel 12 fills in, the area gets an upgrade from more fill in and whatever happens to Hynes.. this area will be one of the nicest in Boston.
 
The only options that *sound* right are "Newbury Street", "Mass Ave / Newbury" or "West Newbury Street". [Blank] on [Blank]" sounds off for the MBTA.
 
My issue with "Mass Ave" is not so much that it would be confused with the OL station, but that it would be confused with Symphony.
 
Newbury Street West makes more sense to me than West Newbury Street. If I heard West Newbury Street and wasn't from around here I'd be looking for that street.

Back Bay West also works, but I don't know how misleading that'd be. If I were heading to 'Back Bay,' I'd get off at Copley.

In reality, it will likely take an eternity for the MBTA to do anything about the name.
