Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

On my last ride on the Riverside line inbound (which I don't take that often) the operator was doing front-door only boarding which seems to negate the point of installing all these readers.
They've been doing it on the B too. The western branches are ran essentially at the train operators' discretion so I can only really shrug when some decide not to open the rear doors cause they want to ensure people pay while others don't care. In my experience even if only the front doors are open there's at least one person at nearly every stop every trip that pays with a card on the new readers. The added payment options and convenience for people makes it worth it in my opinion.

I ride the C branch intermittently and have some positive anecdotal evidence from the weekend, first time I've seen someone pay with the AFC 2 readers at a backdoor :)

Other than that, I've literally never seen another soul pay from the back doors where the operators aren't looking. Hopefully effective fare inspectors mean we can soon get all door boarding at all stops like we were promised.

Looks like there's been an accident on the GLX yesterday.

The truck is mainly operated with the GLX. The accident with thr truck & car probably occurred elsewhere on Memorial Drive.

On an unrelated note, it seems like Medford/Tufts trains never start any further south than Park (or maybe even Govy). Northbound trains south of Park all seem to terminate either at Govy or Union Sq. Does anyone know why? Is it to deal with bunching that happens on the southern E branch?

Looks like the T is trying to get MAAB variance for a section of sidewalk on Medford St, near the Gilman Square substation. It was rebuilt by the contractor as part of the project, but it doesn’t meet the standards for accessibility.

City Council is discussing it tonight.

Since this is the correct thread and it was wrong to use the General MBTA thread to begin with, there is a new article from WCVB posted October 11th, 2024.

Expect more (justified) grilling from the Feds about the total lack of ATP.
36 MPH in a 10 MPH zone and blew a double-red (absolute stop at interlocking) signal, which meant the switch didn't have enough time to reset itself before the train was passing over it. Total operator error/indifference.

Yup...we can't go without a speed-and-stop enforcement enforcement system any longer. They better have a very good explanation for how they're going to do better at the GLTPS contract award, Take Two.

For reference, some selected documents from the most recent rebid RFP. Per the press when Eng canceled the original contract, competitors had their OTS kits installed within days - and if I'm reading this correctly, they should be in the middle of a formal demonstration phase. Even if the draft schedule holds, the full award probably won't be until the spring.

Entire Green Line Extension from Medford to shut down for 15 entire days to fix slow zones at Haymarket.

This covers December 6 to 20, 2024, so that it's shut down for the entire holiday shopping season and students are at school; but reopens right in time when everyone has left for break and the holiday season is about over.

It'd make a lot more sense to do this shutdown between like January 3 to 18 instead of December SMH (or July for that matter, but the Red Line had higher priority).

Is there anything actually being done on the GLX or is this only to get equipment in and for power reasons? Maybe still some work to be done on Lechmere viaduct since that still isn’t at its designed speed?
