Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Just returned home from Israel and the whole King David Lounge at TLV has decorative pillows and decals promoting the new BOS service (in Hebrew). Also, this month's magazine featured BOS. Will try and post pics later. The LY crews I spoke with on my JFK flight seem very excited about the new destination.

Massport has released the December numbers for Logan

Total airport passengers: 31,634,445 - up 4.7% over 2013
Total domestic passengers: 26,545,978 - up 3.8% over 2013
Total international passengers: 4,992,225 - up 9.8% over 2013

You would think Logan will be topping 5 million in 2015 given how strong 2014 was and you have new services coming online, like Hong Kong and Tel Aviv.

Apart from December Europe numbers being down slightly, everything else important for the month is up.

Average loads for December:

Europe - 199 passengers
Asia - 160 passengers
Middle East - 243 passengers
Cope - 118 passengers.

Asia - 160 passengers
Middle East - 243 passengers
Cope - 118 passengers.

Copa did well for the month - 95.4% load factor assuming it was 737-700 every day. Looks like the traffic to Panama/CR and South America fluctuates quite a bit.

Asia flights - 80.7% LF - I wonder if Hainan fill the plane in the earlier part of the month or didn't fill the seats as much on the double dailys. They probably yielded well on those days however.

Middle East flights improved from November with 79.3% LF - end of the month was probably stellar for them.

Just as an aside after looking through the Olympic Documents

Massport might get a big boost for the long desired West Concourse for Terminal E

heavy on the International as would be expected -- in some of the text and tables -- the Olympic Organizers are talking Logan handling 30M today and 35M passengers in the Olympic Year with a mention of 45M by the time the 2030 400th rolls around

I recently flew Delta from from Boston to LAX and was pleasantly surprised by the service. In the past, this route was treated like any regular old DL route, but this time, there were free blankets, headphones, and pretty much all the IFE was unlocked so I could use it for free.

Now if only Jetblue could bring Mint to Boston...

The offering in FC isn't enhanced in anyway, the same lame catering as any domestic route. AA pulled back their enhanced catering effective 9/1/14 (along with many other non-JFK/MIA transcons) although Samsung Galaxy tablets and Bose QC 15s are still offered...for now.

TACV is starting service to Praia from Providence. This service is now bookable, while Boston to Praia is not, starting in June.

It looks like TACV will say bye to Boston.

TACV is starting service to Praia from [PVD instead of BOS starting June]
Who was the target traveler to Praia, Cabo Verde? Family? Vacation? If there's a Portuguese heritage element, then being close to FR/NB seems OK.

Its targeted to Cape Verdeans in Southeastern New England. The majority do live in between Logan and TF Green.

At DAL (Dallas Love) Southwest has leased its 17th and 18th gates (out of 20) (United is pulling out of gates it has held via Continental since the Texas Air days and subleasing). Seems like DAL-BOS service has got to be on the list of 9 cities that SWA has promised (but only revealed MEM SEA and MKE so far)

Did Southwest add back flights to Phoenix? Looking at their route map, they have Phoenix as being a non-stop flight from Boston.

I know they added a few flights for the Super Bowl, but I doubt they would alter their route map for that.

Maybe the map is automatic (in this day an age, probably) and did reflect the Super Bowl flights (after all, if you're flying them, might as well tout them)

But looking at mid-March, no, no nonstops BOS-PHX.

According to WBZ here's the terminal shuffle for 2015 - http://boston.cbslocal.com/2015/02/0...avel-record-year-at-logan-airport/

"A major terminal change at Logan is scheduled this spring when Southwest moves to Terminal A from Terminal E; and Alaska and Sun Country move from A to C. Massport is currently in the design phase of an expansion of the international terminal and JetBlue is upgrading facilities in Terminal C."

^ terminal A deserves a better (busier, domestic ) tenants. I am happy to see Southwest move there

JetBlue and Icelandair have applied to DOT for two-way codeshare agreement. Plan is to start on 4/1/15 with BOS having more of the JetBlue routes with "FI" Icelandair's code in the initial phase-in of the codeshare.

Filing:

Press Release:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/jetblue-icelandair-become-codeshare-partners-151216609.html

I'd love to know what the price difference will be on a JetBlue coded BOS-KEF flight versus Icelandair price. There's a big difference ($500-$800) right now on JetBlue coded BOS-DXB flights versus Emirates lowest fares.

People on airliners.net are saying Thomas Cook will be starting 2x weekly flights MAN-BOS with an A332, but I can't seem to find info anywhere else to verify. Anyone know what source they are using?

JetBlue adding seasonal summer service to the following destinations from Logan.

Martha's Vineyard - daily

Port Au Prince, Haiti - Wed/Sat
(gains back an international destination served by American in the past)

Sacramento - 4 weekly

Didn't see the Sacramento flight coming but there's no other non-stop competition and you do not have to open a new station so its worth a shot.
