Lyrik Back Bay | 1001 Boylston Street (Parcel 12) | Back Bay

I haven't seen if its been addressed, but does anyone know when that 2 level public park there will be finally opened? I'm showing a guest around Boston in mid-September and would love to have this spectacular looking urban spot on our walks.

The hotel will begin accepting guests on July 29th. Not sure when the plaza will open.

Walked by yesterday and yes there’s a huge section roughly at the Mass Ave and Boylston intersection that’s been re-paved. Still some old sections but it’s much nicer in parts. No pic unfortunately.
 
For those who have seen it recently in person: Does this development look like it integrates with or upgrades the area well or does it look like a Bentley Continental parked between 2 minivans at Costco? I plead ignorance bc I have not been on that block in probably 10 years.

It definitely integrates well and finally gives the area that enclosed, dense street wall feel that was so lacking before… that is until you pass either berklee or the tower records building from the other direction and it all falls away and opens up to the sky and the pike at parcel 12. Its definitely a massive improvement not having that exposure on the project side to the pike anymore and it doesnt have that feel of being on like the outer edge of where the back bay abruptly ends like it used to. Now though parcel 12 just feels completely out of place like a piece of the city is missing for some reason compared to before where it was just where the back bay ended and a highway interchange was. Basically its been so successful at stitching up this piece of the back bay that parcel 12 is just ridiculous now and completely out of place. Hopefully that can be fixed relatively soon.
 
I haven't been able to stop by recently. Is the underpass open yet? Are busses using the new shelter yet?
 
The new elevator to the station is “open”. The stairs are still blocked off. You can take it and see the underpass but you are met with a wall at the end because they have not removed the wall at the station.

There's a Rivian going in?

Something about dealerships feels weird for downtown. I understand Tesla and Rivian are popular tech car companies, but people aren't really walking in every day to make a purchase, and once you've taken a look you get all you need.

I also know (at least at NYC locations) Rivian requires email addresses from visitors before they're allowed to look around the space. That really sucks.

Might be more about driving brand awareness than about getting people to make a purchase. A lot of folks haven't even "taken a look" at Rivian.
 
Neither Rivian nor Tesla work on the traditional dealership model, which makes the urban showrooms much more appealing, especially with how they're targeting the upper end of the market. They don't have to keep stock around, so they can just have a storefront in a trendy area of the city with other high-end brands. The traditional automakers couldn't do that, they'd have to direct people to Herb Chambers, etc., to make a purchase.

yeah that's true, but in 6-8 months it'll just be a dead part of a new building. I remember the Tesla stores going into the Natick Mall or the Pru, but eventual it becomes wasted space for commercial usage. You're not going to have returning customers, and it'll have less foot traffic than even a bank. Honestly make it a LEGO store if the HQ is moving in.
