MA Casino Developments

This is called rush hour. What also is jammed is 93 North, 93 South, 95 North, 128, Storrow Drive, the airport tunnels, the tobin bridge, route 3 past hingham, and the new hampshire tolls. Also crowded, red line, blue line, green line, orange line, commuter rail, many bus routes.

So let's not build anything because people may actually want to get there. In short, much of our infrastructure is overburdened and needs to be upgraded. That, of course, requires gov't spending.

WAKE UP. Revere infrastructure can't deal with traffic issues now with nothing appealing to even go through Revere. So how the hell could Revere Infrastructure take-on a billion dollar casino along with MLS soccer stadium?

Traffic would be gridlock for about 15hours a day in that area without improvements.

There are mostly multi-unit families in Revere that probably have 3-4 Cars per house-hold.

Choo this is called planning.

Revere does need something.......like I said they should have focused on making Revere Beach appealing. They have cleaned it up the area but I still think the Beach is polluted.

If only the MBTA hand $10 Billion lying around that could be used to completely rebuild/expand the current subway/light rail system..........

This isn't Bangkok. The Revs stadium would be used maybe once a week throughout the year. 15 hours a day is a bit exaggerated.

Personally, I was casinos outside of 128.

This is primarily due to problems with Lynn. Lynn has about two combined sewer overflows into the Saugus River, which of course empties right at the northern end of the beach. Every time there is a major rainfall, or even just a prolonged steady rainfall, the CSO's spew raw sewerage right into the river. It happened multiple times in just one day during this past summer. Apparently some not-so-desirable-materials were washing up along the beach. Lynn's treatment plant can't really handle it when the rain comes pourin' down, and there are no plans by the city of Lynn at this time to separate the sewers from the storm water system. Nor do they have plans to send their sewerage to Deer Island (which has plenty of excess capacity) which would result in fewer CSO discharges. In fact, Lynn pays fines every single year they don't hook in to Deer Island! But it's cheaper than initiating any construction process, and they don't care about it so much as Swampscott, Nahant, Revere, and Saugus do.

....uh, which is exactly why the blue line needs to be extended in both directions so traffic isnt an issue?

Also, 90% of revs stadiums events would be on weekends, you know, those days withOUT rush hour.

Casinos also attract their patronage on nights and weekends. People arent rushing to the casino during the 8am hour.

The Revs this season had mostly Sat and Sun home games with the occasional Wednesday game. Most of them were 7:30 on Saturdays. The Wed games always start at 8.

Revere, Lynn.

I do agree with the Blue Line Extension at all costs. I am a firm believer in a good solid foundation for TRANSIT. Transit is KEY for a cities success.

Instead of focusing on Casinos. Why doesn't the Political hacks focus on cleaning up the water so Revere, Lynn, E.Boston, Winthrop, Chelsea could prosper on Waterfront & Harbor properties.

I find that finding a long-term solution to the pollution on the beach more important than the Casino deal for Revere/E.Boston.

Revere should be very pricey community seeing it sits right on the Atlantic Ocean and 10-15mins from Boston.

You must understand that the "political hacks" job is to focus on multiple issues not just one. Cities and their surrounding metro areas are burdened with multitudinous concerns and issues. If the polititions stop worrying about many of them and only concentrate on one, well you have a great transit system to nowhere as everything else falls apart.

The hacks job is to have an overview of all issues, and then the specialization takes place by lower level folks. This is why they appoint task forces. And, no I'm not defending them, but you need to get a real grasp on things.

Is clean water more important than a casino, heck yes. But, a clean beach that is used by casino patrons and visitors at the hotel. That sounds like a double win doesn't it.

NO double win here---Take a look at Atlantic City.

There is a reason why Gambling got outlawed in most states. Gambling is not good for a community. Also Revere, Lynn, Everett, Chelsea, Malden, Winthrop, Saugus, E.Boston have more gambling & drug dealer degenerates that most areas in the state. I would say the destruction of this area has just started with a billion dollar casino that will consume anything positive out of Revere/E.Boston.

Not only do you have a Polluted Beach we have sports betting race track with Grid lock traffic for a minimum of 8 hours a day without a blue-line expansion to Lynn because the MBTA is in serious DEBT with all those Pensions.

I would say the Political hacks are about to ruin anything positive that these communities have gained over the last 10 years.

We will see two sides of the Street. Two serious different classes in these areas
#1 Somerville-Medford, Cambridge Boston......Very educated bettering society crowd on one side.

#2 Revere, E.Boston, Lynn, Everett, Chesea on the other side, Poor demoralized degenerates between drinking, drugs and gambling. Broken community.

That's not a paternalistic, disrepectful attitude to have for the 150k people living in these areas. Maybe they are the regular working middle class people you claim to be concerned about getting screwed all the time. Poor doesn't equal lazy and degenerate with an alcohol problem. People with problems exist everywhere, they are just able to hide better in the suburbs.

He's right.... and don't listen to me. I'm just a gang banging, heroin addict, degenerate, welfare milker from Brockton.

I'm saying if the casino is built these areas will head more down the negative path I suggested up-above rather than a more positive path. I really do believe Revere, Chelsea, Lynn, E.Boston have made great strides over the last 10 years. But a casino will flip that path into a more negative corporate area which will destroy whats left of the small businesses and community. As Gambling, drinking and drug dealing will explode along with Prostitution.

If a casino is such positive factor in society then why isn't it in every state?

Penn National release plan for $807m casino in downtown Springfield

By Mark Arsenault, Globe Staff

Penn National Gaming this morning released details for an $807 million casino and entertainment complex in Springfield, becoming the second major casino firm to outline its plans for the city.

“Our proposed $807 million destination casino resort will be the centerpiece of a revitalization of the city and bring thousands of new permanent jobs, significant union construction jobs, and millions of tax dollars to the region,’’ company chairman Peter Carlino said in a statement.

Penn, in partnership with Peter Picknelly, operator of Peter Pan Bus Lines, plans to build on 13.4 acres near the city’s downtown.

“Penn National Gaming shares our vision, our values, and has a terrific record of partnering with local communities in the development and operation of urban casinos,” Picknelly said in the same statement. “We’re looking forward to a constructive dialogue about our proposal with Mayor [Domenic] Sarno, the Springfield community, and state gaming commission.”

Penn National’s proposal calls for 3,000 to 3,500 slot machines, poker rooms, up to 100 live table games, and a hotel with up to 500 rooms. The plan also calls for the creation of new restaurant areas, a 5,000 space parking garage, and up to 45,000 square-feet of meeting and convention space.

Penn National is promising to “incorporate elements of Springfield’s existing architecture into the design of the facility to ensure that Hollywood Casino Springfield fits seamlessly into the downtown area.’’

The plan calls for relocating The Republican newspaper from its current site on Main Street.

Penn will be competing in the city with a project proposed by MGM Resorts in the city’s South End.

Ameristar is expected to propose a casino project on the city’s east side, and Hard Rock International has also expressed interest in Springfield.

Mayor Domenic Sarno has put forth a plan for the companies to compete for the right to negotiate with the city over an agreement to host a casino.

Here's the rendering. Dull building but I do like the fact that a new high-rise would go up in Springfield.

Wow - Springfield has a vertical PARAMOUNT sign identical to Boston's? What does the theatre look like inside?

I noticed the same thing and was kind of looking forward to you coming into the thread to tell us all about that theater.

Wish I could, but I've never looked around Springfield much beyond the Civic Center (where I was long ago a State Democratic Convention delegate) and the Big E.
