Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

Nice pics DigitalSciGuy! I had an interview today in 101 Arch (leftmost building of your first pic). The office has incredible views on 3 sides, and I was actually staring down into the hole watching a machine dig dirt from one side, and then deposit it onto the other side... I didn't really get it... Random question but, how are all these machines going to get out of the hole once they finish digging it?

A crane.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

Any ideas as to what that brick oval thing they appear to be carefully unearthing by hand is?

I would guess an old utility vault, looks like a ductbank or two leading up to it.

Also noticing a new window shaping up on the Wash St side of the Burnham in the terra cotta.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

I am no expert on heavy machinery, but I believe from my office window this morning I spy a pile driver on site. This is fitting into the exact timeline that was told me back in June by a construction supervisor: that work on the tower portion would be in full swing by November.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

Large drill rig on site today. Also a large yellow storage bin. Concrete?

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

I'm reading these updates like they're pieces of fan fiction. I truly can't believe it's real.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

^Same here.

Furthermore, I have been getting so focused on all the other big projects that Boston's biggest downtown building is actually under construction.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

I agree completely. I am actually a little giddy at the thought that a 600' tower will actually be rising in my lifetime in Boston. And soon.

It's all a giant prank. What they're actually building is the twin sister of Waterside Place. They will knock down the Burnham and use its steel to build the sister building.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

Sorry for the crappy picture quality but looks like they are getting ready for a concrete pour

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

Main level concrete pour this morning. Looks like they were putting in the floor.

Semass -- main level of the Tower or the Burnham?

Because of the land slope there's a 1 floor differential from Summer to Franklin and Arch to Washington -- so I think there are at least 2 main levels

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I saw them floating out the floor that was at street level in the Burnham building on the Hawley Street side from Summer St. toward where the Burnham will eventually link with the tower. It was visible from Franklin as well. Gonna have to join this millennium and get one of them camera phones.

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

The entire first floor of Burnham slopes slightly from Washington to Hawley. Wonder if they're doing some leveling?

Re: Millennium Tower - Filene's

The silo is for Hayward Baker. That company does specialized foundation work, different kinds of piles, e.g., micropiles.
