I was wondering if H&M were an apt comparo. So if XL = Medium in H&M, and sizes run smaller in Europe, would an XL in Primark = Small? Will I be trying on XXXL in this UK import, because I am an American who exceeds 15 stone?

You are mistaken.

-Paul Smith
- Fred Perry,
-Topman
- Forever 21
- Hackett
- Charles Tyrwhitt
- Thomas Pink

all have nothing to do with this project, and I assure you are NOT tenants of this project (despite the fantasizing of the past 10 or so posts).

But to each his/her own.

If we can get some of the aforementioned retailers to take up some stores nearby, and get Thomas Pink to move out of Copley and to DTX, we can start calling the area Wee Britain! Oh please, please, please!

Thomas pink used to next to J&M for years but closed up shop about a year or so ago...I wonder what will go into The old Barnes and noble.

Is that the right sort of store to "set the tone" for this fantastic building's retail presence.

I like DTX as the discount shopping district and the Back Bay as the high end district. It makes a lot of sense for the retailers to cluster that way.

I think that discussing the retail aspect of a project is fair game.

@Underground - I kind of agree with you there. DTX is more the mainstream / discount area and Back Bay as the high end. Sort of Midtown = high end and SoHo = discount (Mango, Zara, Uniqlo, Topshop, etc.) And, although Primark is "downmarket", it will be the first in the USA, so whether it was Uniqlo or Primark, I guess it still works. Either way, as I said earlier, a big name retail tenant signed this early is nothing but a good thing.

Anyone know if the concrete pour is happening this weekend or where to find out? Weather looks awful for tomorrow.

The company doing the pour is the same one working on another project with us we were out inspecting yesterday (underslab piping check) and he was talking about "getting ready for the pour this weekend", so it sounds like it *might* be on for tomorrow morning?

Apparently they bought out the supply of every concrete manufacturer in MA. Lol.

Does this actually compute? That's one every 5 minutes for 48 consecutive hours...

It's a big pour.... don't know that they all dump in a single location and spread from there. Maybe 5 or 10 dump zones.

Had another chat with our VP about this weekend's pour. Concrete can be poured in moderate rain, but not torrential downpours, as the concrete will get saturated and the composition will be ruined. The only conditions it is not advised to pour in is extreme cold and extreme heat. Extreme weather can cause air pockets to form in the concrete and compromise the structural integrity of it.

They are also doing all the prep outside right now, so the pour is definitely a go for tomorrow.

http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/feb/14/world-largest-concrete-pour-la-trucks-los-angeles

For reasons not purely promotional, the foundation's concrete was dumped into the hole in one continuous pour – 21,200 cubic yards (16,200 cubic metres) of concrete dumped by 2,120 trucks over a 26-hour period, enough to earn the event a Guinness World Record.

...

At about a dozen stations, each truck took about 10 minutes to dump its 6,000lb load of concrete into the pumping machines before shuffling out and making way for another.

If that puts in perspective.

At 2:30 three pumps had arrived and were setting up. Worker said they're still on for tomorrow 4AM start: "we'll own all the roads around the site." Cars excluded, but pedestrians will be able to watch from sidewalk. Said the rain won't hurt the pour: will only affect the surface of the pour, not its stability. Said the heat generated by curing might dissipate (evaporate) some of the rain water. Said they won't use the tower crane -- driver won't even be there.

newsletter says the pump will take 36 hours. So about 16 trucks per hour average. Very doable considering there will be 3 pumps all going at once. A time lapse video of the pour would be interesting to see.
