North Bank Bridge Pedestrian Walkway

Bos -- when I spoke with Karl Haugland he said that the southbank bridge was close to being ready for final design -- I suspect that the exact footprint is still to be determined

He also said the DCR now has a MOU with DOT that when the Bascule Railroad Bridge is rebuilt that the bridge crossing the Charles (e.g. Northpoint Park to Nashua St. Park) will be grafted onto the rebuilt railroad bridge

Any idea when the rr bridge will be rebuilt?

YES -- BY All Means

SEE It -- I've yet to see it at night when the LED's come out to play

Walk It

Feel it move under you -- (it vibrates interstingly when the train tracks are busy)

Hear it (the sounds of traffic on roads, water and rails all mingle)

By all means Appreciate It

It really is transformational and will really make the North Point an extension of Paul Revere Park

It's impact on the pedestrian / bike routing in the area reminds me of the Millenium Bridge across the Thames in London and the Double Helix Bridge next to the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore

Just Go and enjoy!

PS: still have not seen any up-to-date renders of the companion bridges

I'll definitely have to experience all this for myself the next time I'm in town!!!!!!! And will most certainly look for those details you mentioned such as the depth numbers found along the walkway! Phew, between Ledjes's pics and your commentary, Whi, that hits all the sensory buttons....it sounds over the top amazing in so many ways!

Imagine if even one Greenway parcel was half as interesting as this one bridge.

The optimism on ArchBoston surrounding this bridge is great, I'm going to check it out next time I pass through North Station. Thanks for the photos, ledjes.

One of ABs night photography specialists should get down there in the evening soon - Continuous LED strip light integrated into handrails + light features under bridge is pretty sharp looking

I stopped by yesterday evening and took a few: lessons learned - get a tripod and bring the better camera.
On the Boston side there is a new path that deadends at the rolling bridge - a very cool place to train spot and check out the bridge.
On the Cambridge side there's a new small parking lot under the highway ramps.

Nice pics...thanks! Really like the colors on the 4th pic! Some sort of light pillars or sculptures?

Atlanta -- could be either / both

There are strange mesh towers with bunches of LEDs inside and below -- not sure how programable they are -- do the colors stay the same, change with pedestrians, weather, time of day?

Lots of potential once you install LEDs

RandomG -- those are nice pix

Some of the locations were ideal and some might benefit from some further repositioning

did you use a tripod for all?

Whighlander,
No tripod, just held the camera tight against the railings, or my bike to help steady the shot as best I could. Took several shots at each location, sometimes no keepers at all. Used a small point and shoot: Nikon Coolpix s3000; it doesn't have much in the way of manual overrides.
The perforated metal towers seem to be on a constantly rotating cycle of different colors changing every 5-10 seconds or so. We've seen changing lights before, lots of potential - changes as boats/trans/pedestrians go past, graphic scores of local games, weather (Hancock beacon); someone could really have fun with these.
