NYC Architecture and Development

Let's see some photos of trash days in Manhattan. (This is what I remember hating most.)

I have no idea why, but trash days don't phase me unless the smell is truly out of this world. Other than that I hardly even notice they're there, UNLESS of course it's a jam-packed Midtown sidewalk where even on good days they're overflowing with people. (But then that's all the more reason to stay the hell away from Midtown :))

Anyway here's a continuous 50-foot long, 5-foot tall barrier that magically appeared on Chrystie Street last week.

Does Jersey City count for this thread?

56-story tower planned with no affordable units.

It's only a black-and-white rendering, but The Jersey Journal has a first look at one of the highly anticipated residential towers slated for a long-vacant lot near the Journal Square PATH station.

Dubbed One Journal Square — not to be confused with One Journal Square Plaza, a few blocks away — the property was purchased earlier this year by developers Jared Kushner and KABR Group for $27 million.

Preliminary plans for the first tower, which will have 56 stories, indicate it will rise 666 feet into the air — making it one of the tallest buildings in New Jersey — and include 744 residential units, a mixture of studios and one-, two-, three- and four-bedrooms. There are no affordable units planned for the 1.1 million square-foot tower.

The tower's nine-story base would include about 120,000 square feet each of retail and office space and a 118,230-square-foot parking garage for 388 cars, with an entrance on Sip Avenue.

Another month, another round of exploring the city. I picked up a side delivery job--it's basically an Uber for getting delivered whatever you want--and it's getting me traversing all over Manhattan, walking so many blocks I didn't even know existed, and it's pretty sweet. I've also delivered to one extremely well known celebrity who I'm a big fan of, so there's that perk too :D

As a result, I end up taking only a handful of shots each day, but I'm out so often that the resulting cache ends up capturing a lot of different lighting conditions (sunsets!) and all sorts of corners of the city I was completely unaware of. Now if only NYC summers weren't so damn humid.

Just biked over the High Bridge for the first time today. You check it out yet?

No! And I live so damn close to it... I'm an idiot!

Nice pics.

Anybody else think that the core of 3 WTC is unnecessarily large in relation to the actual size of the building? It's great to see it finally rising, and Calatrava's transit hub came out nice too.

So I think I've aged about 5 years in the 10 months I've been in NYC. I've also been shooting the shit of out sunsets.

Very nice Kz. I am enjoying your photo essays. Thanks much.

Huh, well somehow I've neglected sharing shots for over 5 months... I swear time moves so much faster in NYC than anywhere else.

I know we have our differences and both our cities are great in their own unique ways but when it comes to tall and iconic NYC can not be touched. By anybody. I will forever respect NYC architecture and whats happening there right now is out of this world. I will always admit that I am jealous of their tall towers from the 20's, and lately somehow they have been blessed with another golden age. I love the variety going up from Tower Verre to 30 park place and I think our own 30 park would do wonders for our skyline. Tower Verre in my opinion may end up becoming the greatest skyscraper every created by anybody in the history of mankind. Im not even gonna get into some of the other towers going up because its just out of this world what they are doing right now. Anyways I'm sure a lot of you have seen this building going up in Brooklyn, but for those that have not, this was finally approved...prepare to shit your pants.

73 stories 1066ft tall...in Brooklyn

Very sexy building. With this and One Bromfield, gold is the new black.

^^Not sure which impresses me most: The tower, or the Dime bank lobby.

^^ Word.

I keep looking at this one...all the energy of Art-Deco, with a minimalist language that Mies and Wright would totally dig. This is a proper rock star of a skyscraper. SHoP is for real.

Makes me want the Accordia scheme over Winthrop Square.
