Portland International Jetport | PWM

it's ironic that Breeze/Avelo uses A1-A4. is Breeze going to be assigned the new gates at PWM? that would be weird....
@Portlander might know this better than I, but if I recall correctly at least two of the new gates are going to be "common" with gate 12 being dedicated to AA

Found it interesting that Terminal 1 at RDU has an almost identical layout as the two gate expansion that is underway at PWM. It is nice to see that there are other travelers in the country who also have an enclosed 150 yard walk from the gate to where the aircraft is parked! :)
At first glance, I thought it was done and the Jetport had gotten new grab-n-go sandwich and burger places!

That was the plan moving forward but I'll ask Paul if there are any changes the next time we meet up.

What's even more bizarre Mark is that the entire terminal looks like a replica of PWM from above minus around four gates!

It would make sense for Breeze to have its own dedicated gate. There's the obvious logistical advantage but it's also a "soft incentive" to get Breeze to continue growing at the jetport.

Personally (and selfishly as a United loyalist :p ) I'd love to see UA move to the western end of the terminal. Their space over at Gate 1-3 is quite cramped

My dream terminal layout would be:

Gate 1 : Common (Avelo, Sun Country, Frontier) (Consolidated into 1 larger gate with Jetbridge )
Gate 2: Southwest
Gate 3: Southwest
Gate 4: Breeze
Gate 5: Common (Jetblue, International)
Gate 6: Delta
Gate 7: Delta
Gate 8: Delta
Gate 9: American
Gate 10: American
Gate 11: American
Gate 12: United
Gate 14: United

And as a Delta loyalist I'm pleased with where our gates are located. :) In the master plan it shows the airport filling in the "gap" just to the east of Gates 1A/B and squaring it off to align with the former restaurant space. The new Gate 1 will then become a true jetway that is not exclusive to regional jets and the added concourse space will benefit United's passengers.

Do we have any idea how the gates will work with the FIS facility? I know Paul originally wanted to leverage the former walled-off Delta area behind the old ticketing area, since it's already enclosed. That led me to believe that Gates 1A & B could be upgraded to be the international ones, and the human flow would be to come through the existing TSA structure, then go to the far end of the terminal and present your boarding pass to enter a separated gate area, which would then have elevator/escalator access downstairs to the FIS for those arriving.

Great question and I'm not sure which gate would be dedicated to the FIS Facility but I do agree it would make sense to designate an end location like Gate 1 or 14. We do know that the new station will be built in the former Delta area across from the Portland Police office which will nicely fill in some of that dead space. (y)

It looks like Southwest has quietly added some more springtime frequency to BWI starting next week with some days being 4x daily. In the past BWI has been consistently 3x daily until May.

With PVD the latest in announcing Bermuda Air, and future expansion, this Airline could at some point after the FIS is operational, fly to PWM. I keep forgetting how close it is to NC/SC

Currently they fly E-175s and have 2 E-190's on order.

I personally love Bermuda but I think it would take a larger airline and flights to either Jamaica, Puerto Rico or the Bahamas to make it work from the Portland market. Cancun might be another option that would create some winter interest.

I could be imagining it or maybe I read it somewhere, an airport that requests funding or wants to build a FIS station has to have an airline show interest in producing an international route. If that is true, PWM has been approached and has gotten the go ahead to build it and be operational FY2026.
Is MHT FIS equipped or uses facilities offsite just as PWM?
PVD Yes FIS
BDL Yes FIS
BGR separate terminal-inbound only holdover facility for refueling
BTV offsite?

I have found nothing that shows BTV with an FIS facility. I found some articles of airports that have recently built new facilities like Wilmington, NC and Savannah, GA but it appears to be impossible to find a definitive list of all US airports that are FIS equipped.

PSM, BRG, and MHT all having some version of FIS facilities, I’m praying that federal, state, or city money comes in soon to get an FIS going. If it’s not built, PWM may miss out on some massive opportunities that may just go to other competitor airports in the region. That would be a sad day. If you build it they will come!
The Jetport deserves some national or state recognition in the form of $$$ with all of these impressive passenger numbers.

Great news. And belongs in the PWM thread because it's a Moxy brand and will have a hip rooftop terrace, therefore an excellent viewing platform of the jets landing during Happy Hour. The best viewing spot in the country for watching planes land? I'd choose The In-N-Out Burger next to LAX. Sit in the grassy area during lunchtime to watch A380s landing so low that it feels like you can nearly reach up to touch them.

Do they have to move the Amtrak station? Seems like a dumb thing to do with all of the development around there finally happening.

I think they're determined to move. They want the total trip time BRK-BON reduced (which doesn't just save travel time for people using Brunswick and Freeport, it also saves crew hours), and they want out of having to pay rent to Concord Coach. Remember, they wanted to move 15 years ago, and the main reason they stayed was the original Forefront proposal which included a large office development and a new arena for the then Red Claws, as well as a parking garage that would be available to Amtrak riders. Fast-forward to today, and with the evolution of the project none of those have happened. If it hadn't been for the original proposal, the station would probably be down on Commercial St., right where the cold storage warehouse is now.

A quick look at the seat map for JetBlue's MCO flights for the next week really shows that this route is 🌟Popular🌟

Based on the seat map (an unscientific method) it looks like anywhere from an 80-95% load factor on average.

I really hope JetBlue ups this route to 5x-7x weekly next year!

I am hearing rumors of B6 offering PWM to FLL seasonal as well as SWA looking at a seasonal run to Texas, I will have wait and see if these materialize.
