Portland International Jetport | PWM

Just a side note, BGR will have Sat only service to ATL on Delta. Technically, this route is coming back. This should help the Acadia National Park crowd.

A couple of photos from my brother's flight (Delta A350) from South Korea a few days ago showing the aurora borealis from the flight deck. Sadly, the aircraft needs at least 8000 foot of runway to land so he can't visit me in Portland anymore like he did while flying the narrow bodies.

Happy New Year! It looks like American has loaded daily DFW non-stops beginning at the start of June on 737-800's with an A321 on Saturdays.
Still a ways off, but that's the earliest in the year that they've started daily service instead of Saturday summer service. Good sign...

I'm hoping 2025 is the year that DEN becomes year-round. I'm currently trying to book a trip to SFO in March and it's clear that the Jetport's biggest weakness is a lack of western connections during the slower months.

Maybe @Portlander should bug Paul Bradbury about it ;)

May 22nd - October 25th to Denver is all we've got for now. And you are correct, westbound off season options are Delta to DTW and United to ORD on regional jets. It's criminal! :)

Even BTV has 2-3x daily to ORD with 737's from December to May! I wouldn't even mind regional jets to DTW / ORD but 1-2x daily just doesn't cut it for good connecting options.

I know the winter is slower...But from December to May I think PWM could support:

2 x daily to DL to DTW - 1x mainline and 1x regional
__
2 x daily UA to ORD - both mainline
OR
3 x daily UA to ORD - all regional
__
1 x daily UA to DEN - mainline (Probably A319)

My *semi-realistic* year-round service wishlist would also include:

1 x daily WN to either BNA or MDW - 737-7
__
2 x daily AA to CLT - 1 x A321 1 x A319
__
1 x daily AA to MIA - regional in summer, mainline in winter.
__
2 x daily DL to ATL - Both A321's

I am onboard with your vision and it always puzzles me when it comes to the sharp drop off in service between December and May especially during the holidays which is supposed to be the busiest travel period of the year.

Since I had that “forbidden” message for a while, I just have to say, it’s odd how limited the Jetport gets during this time of year.
ONE flight to the world’s busiest airport (ATL) at 5am, one flight to CLT at 7, and one to DTW in the late afternoon? Good luck going west or connecting somewhere in the south honestly. Record year after record year, when will airlines offer what Mainers deserve? Year round options.
I saw some new years hopes,
Just for the upcoming winters I’d love to see;
ORD: SW add MDW year round (3x weekly atleast), AA add ORD once daily, UA add an overnight stay to ORD in the morning (can’t believe this isn’t an option).
DTW: morning departure to DTW is a must. The regional jet for Delta that goes there now is always full even at the less than ideal time slot.
IAD: additional flight from UA to IAD. Some days are seeing one 50 seater to a massive hub for international travel.
ATL+CLT: add that mid-day flight.
JFK: JetBlue should be year round to JFK on the days they don’t serve MCO.
MIA: It’s really hard to get to the East Coast of FL from Portland, bringing a 2-3x weekly MIA flight would be great for AA.
DEN: the golden goose… would love for UA to try this route year round even if it’s on an A319 or smaller mainline 2-3x a week.
No breeze asks in this even though I want to but they have truly blessed PWM so far with more to come from what I hear!
Again, glad to be back in the forum!!

I think it's inevitable that DEN will go year-round eventually. It's a well performing route and UA is working hard to build DEN into its biggest domestic hub. As I've said before PWM desperately needs better "slow season" western Connections

I also think WN will make BNA year-round at some point as well, once their MAX-7 related fleet constraints are behind them. WN has actually been cutting capacity at MDW and I think BNA makes more sense as a connecting airport to the Sunbelt.

Enplanement figures are out for December with PWM posting 155,686 which is an increase of 16,281 over last year. For the year, Portland handled 2,438,054 passengers compared to 2,218,441 in CY23 for an increase of 219,613 for a new all time record!

Good news for Delta flights to DTW. Starting May 7th, mainline returns year round utilizing the 717-200 starting with 1X daily along with a CRJ900 flight. On June 8th it increases to 2X daily for the remainder of the year with no more RJ's! Sorry NR2Portland, departures are scheduled for 12:50PM and 5:00PM so you get to sleep in. Seasonal service to MSP resumes on June 8th utilizing the 737-900ER.

I’ll take it! I need my beauty sleep LOL! Those DTW flights on the CRJ-9 seem to sell out every evening. Would be great to have 2 flights year round to DTW to keep the west connected all year!

I'm also noticing that WN is adding a -little- bit more winter capacity. Historically BWI has been 3x daily from early January to early June, but this year they seem to be adding a 4th frequency on some days of the week. It also looks like BWI goes fully to 4x daily in April rather than June as it as in the past.

AA is also keeping a weekend mainline frequency to PHL all winter as well. That seems to be new.

Just under 1,000 seats to FL tomorrow. Despite the dip in service during this time of year, Breeze, Frontier, and JetBlue continue to get freezing New Englanders to sunny Florida via direct flights or Breezethru flights.

Major new Universal theme park (Epic Universe) opening this spring.....should help keep seats to Orlando filled in 2025.

USDOT has released their enplanement statistics for all commercial airports in the United States and its territories for 2024. I've taken the time to list the 12 busiest airports in New England showing passenger count and overall ranking:

1. BOS 16,701K (14) 2. BDL 3,172K (56) 3. PVD 1,915K (78) 4. PWM 1,209K (94) 5. BTV 654K (122) 6. MHT 629K (124) 7. HVN 554K (131) 8. BGR 362K (157) 9. ACK 147K (204) 10. ORH 111K (216) 11. MVY 81K (243) 12. PSM 51K (268)

I would not be surprised if HVN moves past both MHT and BVT next year if it continues to add more flights and destinations.

^ And those numbers are with PVD, ORH, PSM and MHT all being less than 60 miles away from Logan!

RE enplanements... Boston has a ridiculous number of college students from around the country and world studying there. Also, many companies with an international presence. I think you will see greater numbers for PWM with Roux, UNE, and even USM enrolling more students from out of the state and country.
