Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

Unfortunate the buildings on Tremont didn't go higher. When we studied this site in studio, we found that it was perfectly suitable to push 20+ stories. Ruggles to Rox Xing should all be high density towers on Tremont.

Yes. Failures of planning happening along that corridor. Starting with the landscraper police hq...

Wow - between Copley tower and this hotel proposal, the NIMBYs are in true obstructionist form, choosing idealism over basic economics.

It makes total sense to complain about hotel jobs when you think about all the high-quality jobs on that empty lot. How much do those union jobs on the empty lots pay again?

No, just no. Not letting employees unionize is a serious reason to hold up a project. Why should the rich be allowed to use their capital collectively to influence policy but poor workers should not be allowed to use their labor collectively? Hotel workers have it hard letting a new one into our city that does not respect its workers and thinks that it is ridiculous they have to face this concern before losing their tax credit (free money from the city and state, and a loss of revenue for programs). If they don't let their employees unionize they have no reason to get tax incentives.

You talk about basic economics but isn't it basic economics that when you don't pay someone a living wage they will rely on social services? You should not get to get out of paying people a living wage AND get out of paying your taxes to pay for the services your poverty wages force them into. This is the idealism the owner who thinks they should be able to operate with no care for their workers or the city and state they live in.

After the whole union debacle at the Double Tree, I'd be careful to say the hotel union does much for its members. My friend and her coworkers who have been there for years were strongly against it, they would have seen benefits, comps, and wages slashed under the union, not to mention the ability to purge workers who don't pull their weight. Now granted this is Mariot, not a Hilton brand, so they may not treat their workers as well.

This lot is fenced off and looks like something is happening... I remember a proposal for something large in this area, but dont remeber it being approved.

I also thought I saw some construction around where the orange cones are in this one... there's a glitch in google maps, if you walk forward in this streetview it sends you over to another block

Addition onto Laundry Mates I saw today also

Core topped off for this one on Tremont, steel is rising, too.

This project just started.

No project news but here's a link blasting Roxbury developments by none other than Dianne "Playtex" Wilkerson, the felonious, narcissistic, ex-State Senator caught actually stuffing a cash bribe into her (you-can't-make-this-stuff-up) brassiere. The particulars of the Dig article may be true/not true to one degree or another but it's pure comic gold when she starts braying about others breaking the law!

Eh, she's sticking up for her community, and making some pretty decent points as a member of that community. Boston remains an extremely racist and segregated city, and whether justified or not, it sure didn't look great when they took down Chuck Turner right after Wilkerson, even though corruption runs rampant among the white pols, too. It was a pretty good editorial, and this is coming from someone proud to be one of the 213 votes that ousted her in the '08 primaries in favor of Chang-Diaz.

Im not sure this was ever discussed and perhaps due to its size it didnt attract much attention or go through the BRA (nothing on it on the BRA website) - but this vacant lot now has a substantially-sized, 4-5 story building on it - almost finished.

Re: Jamaica Plain Infill

Sorry, but I'm never quiet sure where the neighborhood lines are. Mods could you put in correct threads?
