South Boston Infill and Small Developments

Not about the Gulf station but the Shell station at the corner of W Broadway and D Street is closed and some major work is in progress. It may just be an upgrade but we can only hope for something better.

Thanks! I HATE those gas stations. There has got to be a better place for them than on Broadway. Talk about a way to make a fun area boring. A great comparison is the Shell station in capital hill seattle. People say that the neighborhood ends at the start of the shell station (the one 2ish blocks away from rhein haus). That's how much of an impact gas stations have on otherwise vibrant neighborhoods.

Does anyone know what the tower is going up on dot ave in southie next to the macallen. Its like seaport tower height and Ive never seen it on here. You can see it from the 93-90 connector ramp and its a steel frame that looks almost topped out.

^^ This is the 14 W Broadway building site.

Gas stations are crucial to local residents. While they may seem like a waste of space, they are a necessary evil. Many upcoming neighborhoods got rid of their gas stations and residents now have to drive far to refuel.

But gas stations don't need to be in walking distance to be useful. There is no need to have one five minutes from home. Especially in a neighborhood like this.

Sounds like the Gulf station is next to redevelop, although maybe not anytime soon..

Last week from SVLENA meeting agenda fb post:

3. Gulf Gas Station, 79 West Broadway (corner of A and Broadway). Proponent is proposing a building with a base height of 45 feet but would include a 110 foot tower at the center. They have been told they ARE NOT in the Dot Ave growth zone and should not be comparing their site to West Broadway Station area (hotel, Cornerstone site). They are, however, entitled to pursue whatever sized project they want but it doesn't mean we have to support it and this is what the community process is all about. So come out and let your voices be heard. Democracy is for those who show up!

Today from West Broadway Neighborhood Association;

Agenda:
Presentation on proposed mixed use development at
Gulf Station on West Broadway @ A St has been cancelled as the project has been put on hold.
