The Block of Shame. Perfect example of the dreary cheapness (design and materials) of so much residential construction. And that ludicrously exaggerated under-construction cornice! Ugh, just ugh.
 
The biggest failure in that picture is the sidewalk.

No trees.

About 5 feet of walking space.

This thread is so distinctive. So many small projects going up in such a small area, which so much diversity among them - at least in the specifics.

But they are (almost?) universally cheap, careless, and fugly.
 
Those ground floors demonstrate what minimum parking requirements looks like. Also, I'd do a significant road diet to reduce the amount of pavement, widen the sidewalks, and add street trees along both sides.
 
cheap ugly? ? Really? Better than three deckers with vinyl siding.
 
Yes and Chlamydia is better than AIDS, but that doesn't (necessarily) mean we should all aspire to Chlamydia...
 
It means most of the infill is of higher quality than what currently exists.
