South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower

Just because I like chiming in whenever NIMBY mythology has to creep into every pro-development agenda...

The trajectory of the sun with respect to the location of South Station would suggest shadows will not play a huge factor in Fort Point Channel watersheet activity. It's a moot point anyhow since the height has pretty much been approved through state regs.

Secondly, I'm not aware of any bloc of residents in Fort Point or Leather District who weighed in negatively to the tower as it was proposed a few years ago.

Fire away, myth-makers.

Sicil -- Of course we were concerned by the shadows :=}

Simple solution to your silliness.

Underwater grow lights. The alge will grow just fine, and it'll look pissa at night when you're walking through.

win/win.

Seaamus -- I like that -- the LED grow lights can be programmed through an interface with half the pixels set by sensors in the carpet at Children's Museum and half set by pressure sensors along the Fort Point Channel walkways

One benefit is that we can test the well known theory that monkeys typing at random would eventually produce all of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets

Re: South Station Tower

^^ I was under the impression that this project couldn't happen until USPS left their location to allow room for rail expansion, and now that they are staying put for a while, I thought that would basically kill this project.

Re: South Station Tower

The tower is a lot thinner than the most recent renderings. Is there a design change?

Re: South Station Tower

HOT DAMN.

Why does it have Atlantic Wharf's crown though?

Re: South Station Tower

Actually that design is already dated. By the time anything does get built here it needs to be more contemporary.

Re: South Station Tower

i think its fine what we need is this to be built as is and then a contemporary 1000 footer to be built

Re: South Station Tower

^^ So I am correct that this probably won't happen for decades?

Re: South Station Tower

The design actually looks really chunky from that angle.

Re: South Station Tower

Am confused. I feel like I must have already seen that render in 2004 or something. Confirm it's really new?

I believe it is dated, though I can't recall ever seeing that render, thus my short burst of excitement.

Also note the lack of Intercontinental or Atlantic Wharf.

Re: South Station Tower

Worked for me to click on. So what' the context for this video again? I love the new renders of the station, the Channel-side retail, the tower itself... all very interesting.

Re: South Station Tower

That's pretty and all, but what is the purpose of the raised lobby at the train station? Why would somebody go upstairs, then downstairs, when they began at track level in the first place?

Nice touch, adding the Dunks at 1:40 :D

Re: South Station Tower

Looks amazing, but I also don't understand why you need to go up, just to go back down, or was that just for certain tracks?

Re: South Station Tower

I think that was just for the new tracks where the USPS was?
