The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Re: Longfellow Place (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

That whole neighborhood behind the garage is Boston's biggest embarrassment for sure. Driving in from the science museum is a shockingly ugly scene. Something needs to be done, and this tower is a step in the right direction. The whole neighborhood, sans the Longfellow twins, should be bulldozed and redone with a proper street grid.

The backcover blurb for Mike Quartz's indispensable "City of Quartz" memorably reads in part: "To detractors, L.A. is a sunlit mortuary where “you can rot without feeling it.”

I always thought that description--minus the "sunlit"--perfectly captured the ghastly barren sterility of that so-called "neighborhood." One half-block of Leonard Nimoy's pre-1950 West End would've contained more vitality than that entire post-1960 urban renewal abortion.

65 Martha Rd will have a very tall skyscraper u/c within 4~7 years.

And very possibly become Boston's new tallest.

Fingers crossed.

I biked past this gruesomeness every day for six years and never realized how warren-like it was. Indeed, the garage enabled, and protected, the necrotic blight behind it.

It sounds like he's just fantasizing to us while touching himself. Like sexting, only on a message board while talking about tall buildings.

Please stop it with injecting 65 Martha Street all over this forum. Ignoring the fact that you are pissing everyone off with your baseless desire, there could be people on this forum who actually live there and would not appreciate seeing someone spewing frequent annoying Rainman comments about demolishing their home.

He really likes long phallic like objects and dreams about them frequently. We would all support you in your hidden love Ordur if that's the case. You should celebrate it, youre safe here.

A crane has deployed at the rear of the demo area.

But, i didn't see a wrecking ball.

Save for a bit of the foundation left to rip out,

the remnants of the old garage game down at just after 3:00 this afternoon.

Some rubble still to clear... otherwise, straight to site prep.

:D

Per the Webcam, it would appear pile driving began today on the northeast side of the site.

Re: Longfellow Place (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

I know it is heresy to say it here, but I think it looks nice all open, without the garage or anything there. Reminds me of the area abutting Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Unfortunately, this is not Brooklyn, this is downtown Boston and I am excited to see this thing go up.
