Re: Residences at Kensington

Boston Theatre District is on expensive life support. Pour in the money and watch nearly nothing happen.

If you think about it, it's kind of a joke.

Re: Residences at Kensington

ablarc, you don't think that Emerson got its money's worth from the Paramount Center? It seems to be heavily booked.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Might just be a case of shows seeking the latest, coolest venue.

How are the older theatres doing? How many shows in the Theatre District are not university-sponsored?

Re: Residences at Kensington

right now theater is moving away from big Broadway style theaters and towards small black box spaces where cheaper and more creative works can be put onstage. Just look at the success of groups like Actors Shakespeare Project.

Emerson might have, but not the city. How many seats are there?

Re: Residences at Kensington

596 seats in the main theatre, 150 in the black box, 170 in the movie screening room, for a total of 916.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Ablarc is merely lamenting that while the Theater District is once again full of beautiful talented co-eds on stage, nowdays they are keeping their clothes on. Now if 'artful' or 'classy' burlesque, as to allay the the detriment to one's reputation in polite society for regular attendance, was to make a comeback, I'm sure Ablarc would be quite happy.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Clearly, the once staple "All College Girl Revue" has taken a turn for the worse.

Plan to build downtown apartment tower gets OK
Globe Staff

A $172 million plan to build a 27-story apartment building at the corner of Boston's Washington and LaGrange streets has gotten the go-ahead from the city's planning agency, the project's developer said last night.

The plan calls for a building with up to 385 rental apartments and four above-grade parking levels with up to 110 spaces.

Groundbreaking is expected to take place in the summer, and expectations are that the Kensington would be ready to welcome its first residents some time in the second half of 2013, the developers said.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Glad to see this, but the developer should still be held liable for demolishing a theatre, and made to pay some money towards restoring or maintaining another nearby theatre.

Re: Residences at Kensington

One down, two to go.

Maybe the next two will be higher quality?

Re: Residences at Kensington

What is this going to look like from the street? With four above-grade parking levels and reduced retail space, I'm very pessimistic.

Re: Residences at Kensington

You should be this guy is very connected. The hearing on the theater was pure corruption at it's worst.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Hayward and Kensington going down this summer. Wooooot.

Re: Residences at Kensington

I like it but I share Briv's concerns.

Re: Residences at Kensington

Let's not get too excited yet. Remember Filene's is technically already ahead of both these projects.
Be happy when you see steel start to go up.
