The New Retail Thread

and does it have to be a checking/savings account or is a credit card account sufficient?

I just tried it today. It seems that it needs to be a Capital One 360 debit card (which I have). Not just any Capital One card. The bank serves their online bank customers (though regular Capital One people can obviously use the ATM like usual).

I've been avoiding them because (a) I don't want a sales pitch,(b) it seems like it would be awkward to be sitting having coffee while a Capital One person stands around doing nothing, and (c) I worry that the coffee would be crap compared to a place that's 100% coffee shop.

It's a full service Peet's location. On one side there is some Capital One stuff. The bank people greet you on occasion, but there's no sales pitch and they actually don't even identify themselves as bank people. You know from the name tag. Really no different than a regular cafe.

I tweeted this thread exchange at Capital One 360 to hopefully help their marketing team fix their brand image. Sooooo many misconceptions & a lot of lost business because of the misconceptions. They tweeted back to me saying thanks and offered me a free drink if I show the tweet. Pretty cool.

Mastro's Steakhouse (woohoo!) will be opening right on the water at 22 Liberty.

Now in the Seaport we'll have many steakhouses:
- Del Frisco's
- Morton's
- STK
- Mastro's
- Ocean Prime
- The Palm (close enough)

Mastro's will easily be the best of that bunch when it opens. Has anyone tried Ocean Prime?

Ya, real good food and solid drink menu. Bar area is very nice and has live music which was a nice touch...there was a fireplace area as well off the bar area. Overall I was impressed and will be back eventually. It was expensive (obviously) so not a "go-to" more like a special/corporate event.

For some steak house context I hate mortons like capital like del friscos and was especially impressed by the food at Strega prime, although a little turned off by the "scene"

Lastly, I'm Not a yelper

Sounds like we have similar taste in high end steakhouses. My order of preference is:

Mastro's
Capital Grille
Del Frisco's
Abe & Louie's

I also don't care for Morton's although at least their seaport location is visually far better than their old windowless dungeon on Boylston.

TJ Maxx opening third Boston store today
Donna Goodison Thursday, May 05, 2016

T.J. Maxx opens the doors of its third Boston location this morning, anchoring a prominent and long-vacant corner at Newbury Street and Massachusetts Avenue with a three-level store that ranks among the off-price chain’s largest.

The retailer’s 45,000-square-foot store carries women’s, men’s and kids’ fashions, toys, and beauty, pet and home decor products. It’s the 1,164th store for the 40-year-old division of Framingham-based TJX Cos. Inc...

The store features The Runway for both women and men — T.J. Maxx’s more exclusive department with premium designer clothing, shoes and handbags that is in only a fraction of its locations....

The Newbury Street store is larger than the average approximately 29,000-square-foot T.J. Maxx store and includes digital displays and directories that are a chain first. It also has free Wi-Fi and cellphone charging stations, the latter of which T.J. Maxx started testing last year. The ChargeItSpot kiosks allow customers to enter their mobile number, select a security image and plug in their phones in a locking chamber to charge while they shop.

It doesn't sound like your mom's and granny's TJ MAXX

Blue Hills Bank is opening in the Watermark Seaport building.

So far, signage is up for:
- MiniLuxe
- Shake Shack
- Blue Hills Bank

Wasn't a CVS supposed to open in this building?

I also saw signage added for Yoki Sushi on side of the PWC building facing Boston Wharf Road. Haven't seen any activity from the CVS.

Not everyday that you see the Steaming Kettle missing from its place

Apparently some truck hit it and so its been taken to the Giant Kettle Shop for repairs
