Video of the Day, Boston Style

Boston Public Library has 4 videos of Boston around 1900-1906 on its website. Cannot embed them as far as I can tell.

The third one from the top is "Seeing Boston". I don't remember having seen it before (LOL!).

[em]A trolley car takes you an on whirlwind ride through the busy streets of downtown Boston past Jordan Marsh and along Boylston Street to Copley Square passing by the Boston Public Library.[/em]

It starts on Tremont Street near the corner of Boylston Street (I think), turns right onto Boylston Street, then is suddenly on Washington Street going up toward Jordan Marsh (which it passes to its right) then ... it might hook a left on Winter or it might be a completely new street. Then there's a couple scenes I couldn't recognize. The last scene is coming up Boylston Street (opposite direction of traffic today) and into Copley "Square" up past the BPL and up Huntington to Mechanic Hall.

It's incredible that this used to exist in Massachusetts. As the old guy at the end of the video says: "All good things have to come to an end, and that was a great thing."

Looks like there are a bunch more videos under "Boston The Way It Was" but I only watched this one so far. Part 2 is Scollay Square. Looks promising.

Skyline was starting to get filled in, but had a long way to go, especially in the FiDi! Notice the Charles River Park Apartment towers are under construction. There's also a nice shot of the Paramount for Ron!

datadyne007, what do I need to do in order to be able to see the (still) picture you posted above your video?

Looks sweet! That thing really is a temple to PoMo.

Too much HDR. It's like the PoMo of photography.
