Washington Village | Andrew Square | South Boston

Noticed this today. Hopefully a sign of progress?

They have started putting fencing up around parts of this project. Not sure what that means as far as timeline but I hope it's a good sign! That being said, there are still some businesses operating out of parts of the existing buildings.

Anyone have other info about this project?

Some heavy equipment on site now but parts of the complex still occupied. Paint store on Old Colony very busy, as usual.

Very nice landscaping around the two commercial properties on the corners of Old Colony and Dorchester Street

This one looks to be set up as a sales/rental office. Could not see site field trailers, so I figure they are using one of the out bulding as site offices.

Thanks for the pics! I keep wondering when that paint store is finally going to close as it seems they are eager to start construction.

I spoke too soon! Several moving trucks there today emptying out the paint store. Hopefully this gets rolling soon!

What exactly is happening here? Just demo for now, or are specific buildings approved?

Given that there are something like 5 Washington Streets in Boston city limits and that not one of them goes through Andrew Square, can the developers please rebrand this development to a different name? A number of newer developments around the city have added a place-based consideration to their names (Eddy, Troy, and Ink Block come to mind), but as far as I know this development lacks such consideration. 'Washington Village' sounds unabashedly pretentious.

They probably will, we have seen it happen. I don't ever remember hearing that weirdo name of that new kinda turdy tower in Fenway until like 3 weeks before it was finished. They'll probably call it George or some weirdo shit tryin to be shmancy. This is probably one of the best views from a D'angelos anywhere (minus the now existent pile of rubble). Im sure theres probably one in Hawaii or something but I like this view here from this one a lot. O well.

The smoke stack stays?

The smoke stack is not staying. I think they are saving it for last. Will be interesting to see how they take it down (piece by piece or wrecking ball :))

That's too bad. I actually kinda like (decommissioned) smoke stacks. They add a bit of historical character and height to the neighborhood. They make for intimidating landmarks. At least in this case, the replacement will actually be taller than the stack was. (probably)

The smokestack appears to have a cell tower on it, so perhaps they are letting the cell lease time out (rather than buying it out).

Just gonna repeat what FK4 said, what got approved here? Are the renders on the first 2 pages what we're getting? Are all of those buildings approved?
