Re: Residences at Kensington

Is this a luxury apartment?

Do they not realize that people dont want to put down big money to live in a building that looks like crap?

Re: Residences at Kensington

There is no Copley Tower disaster. There's just no news on it.

I actually like the look of the glass going up. This is going to be a good filler building afterall.

If this building is considered a good filler, I am afraid to see what would be considered a bad filler.

What happens when Kairos Shen's vision is realized and every building in Boston is a background building?

He unveils a gorgeous gleaming tower of his own which we will be begging for after all the crap we've gotten. But, he has no funding, and says if we want it so bad, we have to all give him money. Then he extorts us.

Thank you! I've been wanting to start a whole thread on this very topic. Look around; it's exactly what's happening.

Re: Residences at Kensington

That back wall is one of the most hideous displays of glass I've ever seen. What the hell were they thinking?

First off, I think that the developers are smarter regarding market conditions and economics than a bunch of jaded architectural snobs.

Is the building boring? Absolutely.
Do 1%'s care what the outside looks like? Absolutely not.

Here you go...

Re: Residences at Kensington

It's the inside that matters. I can't tell you how many bland apartment buildings (or downright offensive ones) I've walked into and been blown away by how nice the apartments and amenities are. That's all that matters.

That boat sailed a loooong time ago. Avalon Bay, Millenium, Toll Brothers -- they all make mass-market crap and then brand said crap as "luxury residences" and then sell them by the buttload.

Two words:

Foreign Investors

FI can also be understood to abbreviate a term more appropriate to this forum's taste.

Re: Residences at Kensington

This building sucks on so many levels that it's difficult to fathom. It's mind-blowingly sucky.

Re: Residences at Kensington

What you tolerate is what you become...

What we're seeing here, on the waterfront, and in the Bulfinch Triangle isn't merely boring. It's cynical architecture, bereft of any craft or connection to our city.

Re: Residences at Kensington

They are probably marketing this to the same idiots who pay a half million for a McMansion that's made of particle board with vinyl siding but IT HAS GRANITE COUNTER TOPS AND 4 BATHS for 3 BEDS!!!!!

Sheep.

Re: Residences at Kensington

^Hahaha. Proof that gothies are architecture majors.

"Goddam Conformists!"

Right, because we all know the wealthy care nothing about style and image right?

Do you really want to give directions with

"I live in that building"
"Which one"
"The ugly one"

Mmmhmm.

Re: Residences at Kensington

I agree that the building exterior is nearly insignificant when it comes to buyers/renters. All buyers care about are granite countertops, an absurd number of bathrooms and/or double sinks that they'll never use, guest bedrooms they'll never use, and skyline views.

Re: Residences at Kensington

After looking at those pictures I can't shake the feeling that someone just took a dump on my chest. Must ... take ... shower ...

I don't disagree with your logic, but it's simply not true. And everyone is reaching for the top of shelf of insults to describe this building. It's boring, not atrocious. I'll go as far as to say that a rich Bostonian probably prefers living somewhere that doesn't stick out.
