Hospitals, biotech you may argue is off shoot of MIT, finance...are a lot more reasons why Boston doesn't resemble Detroit than merely your first sentence, which I read.

That makes no sense? Of course they are getting the taxbreaks for the development. They are able to recruit the tenant by lowering there rental costs which defeats the purpose of really competing for other space with other landlords.

The reality is this type of thinking Menino and his gang could steal private funded companies or very value properties by recruiting tenants with taxpayer incentives so they continue to lease their own private development. This is why this is so dangerous allowing these leaders to extort the private industry this way.

Yes it makes it a bit easier to rent the properties. But the development is still going to generate tens of millions a year and we are talking about $7 million in tax incentives over 13 YEARS. At $500,000 a year that is a rounding error in the grand scheme of things. If the spaces are leased sooner than they would otherwise be that is even more revenue for the city. This is a no brainer but that doesn't mean people without a brain will understand why things like this make sense.

What about the other private buildings in the city looking for tenants to fill-up their buildings that are owned by investors? Taking away from the private sector and enriching your friends with our money is not creating a fair playing field. Its enriching yourself and friends at the expense of the taxpayers

Supply & Demand for housing in the city is a NO-Brainer. This guy is just sticking to the taxpayers for his own self interests basically saying nobody can stop me.

The BRA is a SCAM...........Nothing more than a political tool with connected usless employees.

wait, there is someone looking to build another 600+ foot residential building in Downtown Crossing? If there is, I am all for $500,000 a year in tax breaks to retail tenants of those buildings as well. Especially if they will generate tens of millions of dollars in taxes after any incentives. This is simple math and good business that goes on in every city in this country in some form or another.
