Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Affordable housing will never work so long as America lives by the motto "Fuck you I got mine." You aren't better than anyone so don't hold up straw men to make yourself look/feel better. I sympathize with your situation but not your attitude.

Incorrect!! You're full of it!!! What on earth are you talking about? That is so not true.

I never thought that, and you're trying to paint a bad picture of me. I never claimed to be any better than anyone else.

One thing about me. I tell it like it is. If you're thinking that, then you're lost.

Have you ever heard of housing first? Homeless people need help they do not need to be ostracized as deserving of their fate. Society has let them down. They are not low life's and failures who should be left out of public assistance. They are the people who need the most help. you saying what you said about them clearly demonstrates that you view yourself as superior.

Also they way you are telling it is certainly not "like it is."

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Get off of it. Yeah: Actually, women with Children come first, the homeless come 2nd. I'm well aware of that.

But some who are homeless don't want the help, so what do you do then, drag them in and make them get the help that they need?

I never once classified myself as being superior. Where did THAT come from? You guys are so damn quick to seemingly forget that the elderly, senior citizens and the disabled qualify for subsidized / low-income housing also.

Which the latter two, I am.

This conversation has strayed quite far from buildings and such ... and is starting to feel a bit troll-like. Lets move away from this and back to how all new buildings are disappointing.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Any type of a facelift to a old building is usually a good thing.

Guess that it'll be nice to look at when the restoration to it is done!

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Almost half of New Street has been partitioned off now, as workers prepare to bring in heavy construction equipment.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

The light in the building can be seen on at night from my living room window.

Activity there is beginning to increase, as workers are about to have heavy construction equipment brought in.

Because two or more here are so blatantly accusing me of being stereotypical, to which I'm NOT!

But yes, I agree.

When this bitterly cold weather dies down & temps return to normal, I'll go over there and see if construction has started.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

They're adding stories to this? Nice.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Yes.

Seven more floors will be added to the existing structure. Sixteen floors total.

Gutting out has bugun, and as the weather changes over to spring, we will see the construction activity increase there.

Jahvon -- outside of the Tower at Logan -- when finished this might just be the tallest building in Eastie

When you look at the map -- very very interesting -- might actually be able to build relatively tall in the New Street area -- not really near any runway approaches or take-offs

Looks like the building has been completely gutted out now.

The bare concrete frame is now exposed, but the lights are still on at night. I think security is there 24/7/365 to discourage would-be thieves.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

So they're tearing down / scrapping the facade of the brick building? That's... stupid, that cornice is beautiful. I don't care as much about the concrete building, although after the amazing work they did on the Mapleleaf over in Northpoint, I kind of wish they were going for that here instead of... whatever they're doing.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

That looks so rickety, like a big gust of wind would take it right down.

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Dude ... stuff is strong :)

Re: New Street, East Boston multi-use project

Looks like there is some brick-laid cladding in the structure when it is rehabbed, along with a glass façade though.
