New Ideas for the Site

Thanks for the support. I'd totally be willing to. There are numerous areas where I feel this forum could be improved.

how about a mobile app for archboston so people can easily check/post on the go

The newer vBulletin versions have full mobile support. aB uses a very old version of vB. It's understandable because it's expensive and aB offers an ad-free experience, so revenue is non-existent.

The Tapatalk app is designed to work with vBulletin forums v3.6 and up, but Tapatalk must be enabled on archBoston first though:

I pushed for this to be done in the past, but nothing ever came of it. I could do this free upgrade in a matter of minutes if I were to have proper admin access. I've admin'd forums before and am familiar with the APIs.

Enabling Tapatalk would also have the benefit of people being able to discover us easier via the app.

How about a map where you can place a marker on the map that links to the discussion thread? A bit of work, but it would be a great way to put some of these discussion threads in their context.

You mean like this?: http://archboston.com/community/showthread.php?t=3920

It is wildly out of date, but seeing as I'm a little more active now, I can maybe get back to updating it.

Yes, exactly like that. Nice.

Embedded on the website perhaps on the homepage or made sticky on a thread. And making it editable by others who might help keep it up to date. Also, personally I think defaulting to the satellite view provides more context where you can really see development patterns at a glance.

Cambridge really needs it's own thread someplace - especially when the Volpe and the MIT projects start gaining some steam.

Cambridge projects are fine in the New Development forum.

I've been thinking of of putting a sticky thread in the New Development forum called:
"What's Happening With Project X?"

It would be a place for people who really like to dig up old threads even when they have no new information. It would include a gentle advisement not to bring up old thread, but ask any questions or new thoughts about dormant projects in that thread.

The only reason I haven't done it yet is because there are already two stickys on top of that forum and I am not sure I want to clutter it up with another.

Thoughts?

I say do it -- it would also be handy for those who cannot find a thread they're looking for instead of creating a new one. That will avoid threads like this: "Hey, where is the X thread? It isn't coming up in a search! Here's a photo dump."

Also, the Bankers & Tradesman thread should really be moved here to the Announcements forum.
