Come on guys, this is why we never get any support. We constantly blame others instead of promoting our ideas.

Who is "we" and who are "we" seeking support from?

Its not really "blaming" menino when its a documented fact that he was a corrupt union hack. You think someone who cant even pronounce any words over 5 letters just got into office cuz he was the best candidate? He was compromised and used as a pawn for the shady dealings the city cut behind closed doors for decades, and the reason some train driver was reported to make 350k a year, while the t is crippled in debt and incompetent from top to bottom. Its a double edged sword because Boston is a much cleaner, safer city because of him, but at the same time its over run with corruption and far under developed causing a triple decker on blue hill ave to be worth a million dollars essentially meaning for anyone to survive that does not make a shit ton of money they need all kinds of handouts from the govt just to keep the lights on. These programs are then unmonitored and used by those very people to basically live for free on your dime in the projects while driving BMW's and always having the newest iphone.

Not that it has anything to do with 111 Federal, but I wouldn't even give Menino credit for cleaning up Boston. Just about every major city in the US cleaned up to a similar degree over the same time period. Menino was just there to ride the wave.

We is the Yimbys and we are trying to drum up support at the BRA because of their acceptance of community input.

Stick -- I think you have the wrong name here -- for all his faults Menino was not a Union Hack -- that's the pedigree of the current administration's leader

Menino got the be Mayor because he got elected to the otherwise ignorable post of President of the City Council after being a district counselor for several years and then Ray Flynn got the chance of a Lifetime and he took it and then Menino got the chance of a lifetime

Flynn left Boston to be US Ambassador to the Holly See in 1993 -- aka the US Ambassador to the Vatican and the umbrella holder for the Pope

That created the vacancy which according to the City's Charter is to be filled on an interim basis by the President of the City Council and voila Mayor Menino and then he was elected for real for the next 20 years

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

Copied from the City of Boston website....

"Mayor Walsh also made his mark as a labor leader. Beginning in Laborers Local 223 in Boston, he rose to head the Building and Construction Trades Council of the Metropolitan District from 2011 to 2013. There he worked with business and community leaders to promote high quality development and career opportunities for women and people of color."

The Building and Construction Trades Council is essentially the voice of all the Union Trades (other than the Carpenters). As the head of the council, it was Mayor Walsh's job to promote the use of Union Trades.

For those of you just tuning in: No, there's no news.

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

The quality of this forum has deteriorated drastically in quality ever since the yimbyism movement washed over. I haven't seen so many thread derailments and flame wars since Ned Flaherty posted here. The similarities are striking between the two extremes.

Agreed, and this discussion probably deserves it's own thread. A brewing scandal in the office of the most pro-open development mayor that we've seen in probably all of our lifetimes is absolutely noteworthy and should not be ignored for fear the BRA actually gives two shits about what is written on this board.

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

Not that we need another affirmation, but I also hate to see threads about specific development projects turn political, finger-pointy and argumentative. I am a new contributor on here, but long-time browser and long-time boston resident, engineer, and appreciator of great architecture and development. Don't we all love to see great development manifest in our city - let's keep it about that.

Also, enough with this YIMBY-vs-NIMBY crap. The dialog that needs to be advanced is SIMBY (smart development in my backyard): the RIGHT building for the RIGHT parcel where maximum benefit for everyone is considered. Not squandering opportunities for thoughtful, infrastructure-supported density and height where density and height works, and preserving the beauty of our historic city where developmental aggressiveness would threaten it.

111 Federal is a parcel that supports smart density, so let's make that work here!

I agree, I take back what I said. We have an amazing opportunity with this parcel of land and we need to make sure the right proposal is chosen.

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

When talking about threads going off topic takes the thread even further off topic...

BigPicture -- how do you convert smart development in my backyard into SIMBY -- I get SDIMBY

perhaps you could go for Appropriate Development in My Backyard

and get ADIMBY ;)

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

Forgive the temporary derailment. The above post compels me to make a personal observation.

I have been a frequenter of this forum for a while. Seen members come and go. Arguments ebb and flow, issues wax and wane, derailments too many to number. I, like many here, no matter the discourse, keep coming back.

If nothing else, there are the pictures... which over the years have gotten better and better. (My hat's off to all our picture posters. Thank you.)

However, I have not seen a time when so few contributors have so monopolized this forum with so little to say. (Okay, Ned Flaherty, perhaps.) I will not name names. I am confident these individuals mean no harm.

Nonetheless, to them, allow me to make one suggestion: Common Sense. When enough people comment negatively perhaps there is a point to be made.

Reflect, reread, contemplate, revise, all of the above... before you share. You may find the negative responses diminish.

None of us is ever too old to learn.
