Gables Seaport (née Waterside Place 1B) | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Re: Waterside Place 1B | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

According to the Massport RFP for Parcel A-2, this has been renamed to Gables Seaport.

Thread should be renamed:
Gables Seaport (née Waterside Place 1B) | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Re: Waterside Place 1B | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Need to update this thread title, please:

Gables Seaport (née Waterside Place 1B) | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Updated, thanks for the heads up.

You guys care about developer's branding/SEO waaay more than I do.

Could someone please point out the gables on the renderings for this project?

We've reached peak meaninglessness. GBLZ @ C-PRT would be better.

I care about the branding as much as I care about the facade of the building. (facade = branding, branding = facade) Careless branding devalues the work.

Well you know me, I'm old school. I don't think buildings even need branding. Nor do I think it's the forum's job to help developers with their SEO. When we first had the thread naming convention I voted for:
12 story mixed-used | 123 Main St | Charlestown

But others felt differently so here we are.

Buildings get names for the reason everything else in life gets a name: it's hard to keep track of things without them. If I were to refer to 20 W 34th Street you'd probably have no idea what I was talking about; that's why we call it the Empire State Building (a name coined, by the way, by the developer back in the day). And building names have been around since well before "SEO" became a thing.

Without their building names the threads for every residential project in the Seaport would be pretty much identical.

People don't object to things having names. People object to things having stupid names.

It's not M-Pire ST8TE, is it?

This name at issue here is "Gables Seaport."

The point of statler's post is pretty clearly that we should go by addresses, not names. That has nothing to do with perceived name quality or stupidity.

It's all about branding. Gables Residential naming it's newest addition, Gables Seaport, is no different from Marriott Corp. naming it's hotels by location, ex: Marriott Long Wharf, Marriott at Copley Square, or Hilton Corp. naming it's hotels by location, Hilton Back Bay, Hilton Boston Logan Airport.

I know the Empire State Building as the Empire State building because, as you point out, the developers insisted people call it that. Had they named it "20 W 34th Street" I still would know what it was in same way I know what 111 Huntington and 33 Arch St are.

The building and name are (both) awesome and iconic.

i'm impressed and thrilled.

Who cares that Josh Gordon is now a former Patriot.

Who cares the dynasty is done.

Who cares that SST, Harbor Garage, Copley Tower, 1 Congress, Parcel 15, 40 Trinity, Back Bay Station, Columbus Ctr, Fenway Ctr Main Tower, Parcels 7, 12 & 13 aren't anywhere near going u/c..... or The Huntington, or Kenmore towers!! Who cares if Transbay, or Southbay or Boylston Square are fuzzy childhood dreams from a distant bygone era....

GDammit we have Waterside Place A & B!!!

Not sure Waterside Place A deserves even a single exclamation point.
