Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

not sure the cost of salvaging this would come anywhere near the cost of putting in fair gates or an escalator.
It wouldn't be enough for an escalator, but fare gates aren't that expensive.

For the cost of salvaging, cleaning up, and putting these up, the money could have been used for fare gates, or even an escalator at Lechmere. Odd how the VE process worked in this case.
Is the piece of the old elevated going to be there permanently or?

Yes, it will be there permanently. Among the agreed-to environmental and historical mitigation for the project was "Salvage removal, repair and preparation, and reinstallation as an interpretive object of a section of the existing historic steel Lechmere Viaduct." (That was a federal Section 106 commitment.) Given that this was the last piece of original elevated structure remaining on the system, it's hard to imagine that preservation of a section would not have been required. Environmental and historical mitigation is dependent on the scale of the project and its effects, not on the cost.

What made them do THAT? Also, shades of the Old El that ran on Washington Street From Dover Station to Forrest Hils! Actually from the incline that lead to Chinatown Station. Gotta admit that it DOES look kinda nice with the black paint on it. Brings one back to the retro days of the Old Els in Boston!! Hah!!

I'm beginning to like that! Seems to add a nice touch of the old flavor of yesteryear!! :)

Sort of like what was done with the steel from the original World Trade Center. It was offered to places to be set up as a memorial to commemorate the many lives lost there. :)

Here's a shot of the Union Sq elevator with the T logo on it!

It looks a lot nicer than the cheap-looking "street sign" T lollipop signs I've generally seen for GLX so far

That looks really good

the stretch between Washington and cross looks almost ready to go.
Interestingly though, bar the first couple of lights on the path, this stretch seems to be un lit. Maybe that's still to come but seems like its most important area of the path to light.

Same color as the old El struts placed under the new Lechmere Station. Looks nice!! :):):)

Sounds like a Thomasson….

“Thomasson: noun \ to-ma-son \ a preserved architectural relic which serves no purpose”.

Love those pole lights! They also seem to add old flavor to the GLX, goose-neck style!! :)

Signals are operational on the Medford Branch just south of the East Somerville station:

This must mean test trains will be running shortly! IIRC signals were activated on the Union Square branch about a month before test trains started rolling.
