    Grafton Infill and Small Developments

How about some photos of where I actually live? Baby had her first Egg Hunt on the Common today, put on by the library. We have a tiny but quaint little downtown area that is quintessentially old New England town center. We're looking at houses so who knows how long we'll continue to be here...

    Newport Photo Album

The mansions are always cool. We went to The Breakers last night for what is pretty much the final Christmas lights of the year (I think they are open tonight, then that's it). Took the nice camera and finally hit on what I'm supposed to be doing with the settings. The upper hall of the mansion...

    Worcester Photo Album

Well, why not? Boston is awesome but the Woo has it's charms. To wit: the wife and I headed to Polar Park this past weekend for "Winter in Wooville", a Christmas lights display. Less elaborate than some other displays we've been to, but it was a nice time out and the families there all seemed...

    Mystic, CT

The wife and I travelled down to Mystic this morning for an exhibit at their arts center. I had been to the Aquarium and Mystic Seaport but not the downtown proper. Walking was limited as she's due in a month, but what we saw was lovely, if not a bit reminiscent of other towns (it's like a cross...

Mt. Washington Resort - Bretton Woods

My wife's company threw a big party at the Mt. Washington Resort for all of their employees this weekend (and next, they had to split it into 2 groups). We got lucky and got to stay at the main resort, which was built in 1902. It's incredibly impressive and, as my wife said, it looks like the...

    St. Petersburg, FL

Just got back from the IndyCar season opener in St. Petersburg over the weekend. The race takes advantage of Albert Whitted Airport's position along the eastern edge of downtown to create a circuit using one of it's runways, up 1st St., around Pioneer Park, and back down Bayshore. I got in a day...

    Key West, FL

My wife and I wanted to not be home for our first Christmas without our son, so we headed down to Key West for the week. Duval Street is where most of the action is, and while it's full of people the entire mile it's also home to a whole truckload of schlock. There are a few nice places along it...

EcoTarium - Stoddard Exhibition Hall & Expansion - Worcester

Yesterday afternoon I had the honor of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the EcoTarium's new Stoddard Exhibition Hall. This 8000 SF expansion adds a 6000 SF exhibition hall with 16 foot high ceilings to allow for the large travelling exhibits that usually only come to Boston. It also...

Registration of Kei vehicles in Massachusetts

GBH's article was linked to on UHub today: https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2024-08-14/these-mini-imported-japanese-vehicles-may-soon-be-banned-on-massachusetts-roads I was surprised to see this pop up there, since it seems like such a niche thing, but I'm glad to see it getting wider play. This...

    Daytona International Speedway

Through an incredible circumstance (a team honoring my late son on their race car) I ended up at Daytona for the Rolex 24 over the weekend. I had been to Daytona last March but not for a race and only for a couple of hours, the 24 gave me a few days to spend at the facility and I came away...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XVIII (2024)

Kicked off the new year with a family trip to the forever awesome Museum of Science, specifically to see the new "Heart of New England" Omni film (my wife works for MathWorks, who helped fund it). Pretty good, with lots of nice overhead shots of Boston. The Museum itself has changed quite a bit...

    Disney (yes, Disney)

"Disney" gets thrown around as a pejorative in these types of circles. The idea that a piece of architecture is inauthentic or too grandiose, or maybe too cheap and corporate. After seeing WDW with fresh eyes after last being there 20 years ago, I'm now inclined to say that this usage is an...

    Boston in video games

Admittedly, I still haven't played Fallout 4 (and probably never will), but I wanted to showcase some different renditions of Boston I've encountered in games over the years. I'm primarily a racing game guy, so I'm curious what else is out there that's not just cars. I'll start with one that...

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XVII (2023)

Came into town on Saturday morning for the Winter Classic Fan Festival at City Hall Plaza with the family. Big crowd and a great atmosphere, I haven't been to a B's game in person in years but will try to make that happen in the coming year. They brought their freakin' toys with 'em! And...

    Field Farm - Williamstown, MA

It's our 8th anniversary on the 18th, so my wife and I spent a night this weekend at the Field Farm Guest House in Williamstown, one of the many Trustees locations. Thought this place would love to see it as it's a mid-century modern home that's been barely touched through the years. The...

    Theme parks

Wanted to start this thread as a general thing because I'll be heading to Disney in the winter and I've been to a lot of theme parks this year and just want to compare them a bit. The wife is starting a new job next week, so with the gap we decided to take the little guy to the new(ish)...

    Columbus, OH

Over the 4th weekend I took a trip to Columbus, OH to hit up the nearby Mid Ohio Sports Car Course for their annual IndyCar race. While I was there I briefly stopped downtown to take a look at COSI and the general area. I didn't have much time to spend in the downtown section, but I did stop...

    Lake George, NY

Just spent a weekend with the family up in Lake George. Mostly rural but the downtown section is somewhat built up. Pretty schlocky, though - it's a bit like Winnipesaukee in that regard. Lots of arcades and tourist traps. Boat ride was nice - it's a very pretty area.

    Cars

Beating kz to the punch here since what I take photos of most regularly are cars. I'm more a racing fan than just a car guy so everything skews in that direction, but I also have seen some impressive road cars in my day. I'll post more of those later, but here are my favorite shots for now.

    Crane Estate from the roof

Took the Cupola Tour with the family at the Crane Estate over the weekend. Been there several times but this was a great new perspective. Always worth a visit. ...and, for good measure, an actual crane!
