Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Not to go off topic, but what is the difference (if any, besides marketing) between class A office space to whatever the alternatives are? (I assume class B, etc...)

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

^There are classes, A, B, etc., mainly differentiated by price, location, quality of construction. Class B, for instance, could be some of the decent rehabs in Fort Point. Demand and availability varies for each class depending on the economy.

I'd be interested in any further information myself.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

I got threatened by some guy on the job site for trying to take a photo of this building FROM THE STREET.

He insisted Congress Street was private property.

I was too busy that day to stand my ground and argue with the police he wanted to call.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

This is why we let our rights go down the drain.

It was more of a case where there were things I HAD to shoot before I ran out of light, and it was already mid-afternoon on an overcast day.

Re: Russia Wharf

^

We should go back to referring to the site as Russia Wharf, until you return and get a formal apology.

Congress Street is a public street.

Once you cross the Congress Street bridge, all of the side streets off of Congress Street except for 'A' Street are private until you get to the next signal light at Boston Wharf Road.

Those private streets includes Sleeper, Farnsworth, Thomson, Stillings and a few alleys in the subdistrict south of Congress. Even those streets are considered 'public ways' by the City so you have the right to walk, drive, eat, curb your dog and photograph on any of them.

If it happens again, you should report the site to the Mayor's office, and also (hold the applause) the Boston Harbor Association -- their battle for public access along the Harborwalk is and was hard fought.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Great pics 02124. A different angle than we normally see. Dorchester Heights?

Sicilian, interesting about the private side streets. Does the city still pave/plow/maintain them? I ask because I got a parking ticket on Sleeper once.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

^thanks! yes from Dorchester Hieghts

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

My understanding is that private streets must be maintained by the private owner. I do not think the City can ticket on a privately owned street, even if there is a public easement, but I could be wrong about that. I live on one such private street in the area and the police do not enforce parking -- private owners do. Illegally parked cars are towed by arrangement of the private property owner, not ticketed.

I am not certain who owns Sleeper Street, but I do believe it is a private street with a public easement. If you received a ticket, that might be an indication that all or portions of it are City owned. I'll check next time I drive by there if there are City "Resident Permit" signs or meters, which would indicate that it is a city street.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

That's your best mirror shot so far, I think. Really like that one.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Did Dot create the rear view mirror shot much like Tarantino's trunk shot?

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Great pics! You can see some of the pre-leased floors being built out.

BTW, your mirror shots always confuse me (I spend 5 minutes trying to figure out where the pic was taken from before realizing everything is reversed).

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Here it is, a finished section of Seaport. I don't think I need to say anymore.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Could be a taste of the future. Once again, I am somehow pleased with the aesthetic. I have no idea why. It's clean? It's sort of refined, in a weird, suburban sense of the term?

I do see a ton of potential. These shots reveal a few key spaces that could be "urbanized" with mid-rise buildings and ground floor retail.

The key is, and has always been, to get some damn residential down here.

By the way, if there isn't a Chipotle in the Seaport, there should be. First, the architecture of those restaurants is superior to most of the Seaport. Second, they are always packed with business people, and would be a huge financial success.
