Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Inline photos are probably the biggest discussion generators on this site (more so than newspaper articles).

Thumbnails seem like a good compromise, but many people won't click on them and won't be inspired to comment on what they see.

The system in place works pretty well, all things considered.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

I like the pictures, even though I do often try to get a personal look at things. People who don't should just turn images off on their browser when they come to the site.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

If I couldn't see the updates, these threads would be worthless to me.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

The most interesting discussion topics on this forum are architectural, and not those concerned with the sorry, sorry state of Boston development. And without pictures, you can't have a serious discussion about architecture.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Agree with Jass (even though I think he's referencing me about beige).

I was just making fun of the black/green/primer conversation going on at the top of the page.

The conversation would be meaningless to most of us if there was no picture to reference.

The crux of the matter.

And even if we were to split things up, where would comments on pictures go? In the picture thread, or text-only? I don't see how anyone could make a clear cut between the two.

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

From a photographers perspective. I think you have to have the appropriate photos in the appropriate thread that the current project is on. If you were to only have text only. I think you would not see as much activity on the forums. That's what forums are all about.
If we wanted text only that is going backwards not forward.

And to hit on a second point. if you were to have only photos in a photos only thread I think the reader / end user would get lost in the hundreds of photos of the 40 or so projects at any given time in the city and again it would be overwhelming.

And perhaps the color conversation was trivial but that's the nice thing about a message board. nobody's right and nobody s wrong. We all have opinions and we all have a good time.

just my opinion though ;-)

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Points considered, complaint withdrawn.

I agree that thumbnails don't make sense. Maybe clickable 4" x 6" images when possible?

Whatever consideration can be made by individual posters, perhaps even in the pixel dimensions of images posted in the thread of a conversation, would be great.

Back to Atlantic Wharf?

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf)

Pics are the biggest part of the forum, no change is necessary. A concession is already made to your side with the auto-resize, most forums allow huge images to fill the whole screen while here they are made smaller.

Thanks for the pics Boston. The unfinished cornice looks like a kid wearing his hat sideways.
