Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

The Toronto Dominion Shawmut Delaware North Gahden has better ingress and egress than MSG. And the Knicks don't play there very often, so that is also a plus.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

What would improve this area?
Somebody all ready made a good comment about an
#1 ESPN Zone
#2 Defintely some Neighborhood Condos

#3 Maybe make this area a MEDIA outlet like Time Square.
I'm actually not sure if this area could make money........They need a big developer with some great ideas to come sweeping in. If North Station can't make money with the Celtics almost winning the championship, we are in serious trouble.

This area might be DEAD MONEY.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Dude, you really need to slow down. Every single area with the slightest hint of a problem, you seem to suggest making into either Times Sq. or Greenwich Village. Really? Give it a rest. It's not NYC. We don't want it to be NYC. In case you didn't know, neon does not equal excitement.

I've always been the one suggesting an ESPN Zone, but the more I think about it, it's not really necessary. They have one at LA Live. Do we really want to copy LA Live?

What the hell does "dead money" mean? You honestly believe the area can't make money? Then you're pretty ignorant, because it already does. What does North Station revenue have to do with the Celtics, and how do you know it didn't make any money during games 3-5?

Big developers with great ideas? Oh, you mean like Fan pier? Or maybe City Hall Plaza? No. The economy sucks right now, so it's doubtful much will get built. What you can be sure of, is that tweaking the zoning and permitting processes will lead to better development, not some silver bullet developer.

Sorry for being so harsh, but lately you've been posting a lot of seemingly frustrated rhetoric that makes it seem like you have a disconnect from reality.

Calm Down
The economy sucks is an understatement. Dead Money means prices need to come down for any economic activity to continue. If you haven't notice Boston is becoming very DULL and Boring. The only excitement out of this city is a college dorm being built. The only thing in the city that can survive is CVS, Walmart, Bank of America, and some Bars.

Why can't some areas have NEON lights and add some excitement to the city? North Station area would be perfect IMHO.

"The Tweaking and zoning process will lead to better development" ARE YOU fucking NUTS.......Fan Pier & the Seaport District has been ongoing for 50 Years and look at the BOX they built......

We have had the biggest Real Estate boom in history. What type of development do you think you will see now that Real Estate seems to hit the deflationary side? I would say BOSTON has missed OUT. The only thing saving this city is the Colleges and Hospitals.

And your telling me to calm down. The city planning has been horrific

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Disney is shutting down all the ESPN Zones except the one in Anaheim.

I thought that was the idea for the Theater District.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Thats a good idea.

The WBNA is a joke. They have had so many teams come and go. You know it's bad when you have a franchise in Tulsa. Then again, the NBA has a team in Oklahoma City....pretty bad if you ask me. The WNBA will never be a solid league.

Personally I never liked the TD Banknorth Garden. It looks nice on tv, but in person its a super-sized high school gym. And the whole place is painted Bruins black and gold, which makes Celtics games seem a little awkward.

I'd love to see the C's get their own building, something beautiful and classy like MSG...

I would not call MSG classy. I too have never been a fan of the TD Garden...too small (attendance wise) and to much wasted space. I liked the United Center in Chicago and the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul as the best arenas in the U.S. The Staples Center in LA is awful.

You could be right. But the colleges in the area might attract some solid fan base for the WNBA. It might have shot.

Whatever happened to Boston Blazers Lacrosse? That was actually awesome

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

The FleetGarden was just built at the wrong time unfortunately as far as aesthetics go. Everyone was singing it's glories when it hit the market. There has been quite a shift in the design of these places in the last 17 years. The major change being to make them more outwardly appealing and working better with their surroundings. That has also caused major upticks in cost.

For instance (since I worked on the project) the Pru in Newark is a very outwardly good looking building, as well as inside and has been tailored to the new fan (also has the 3rd highest ticket prices in the NHL.) It cost upwards of $375 million mind you.It works well outside and involves the community around it (if you can call it that). I also agree with the above statement about the Xcel center in MN.

Comparing the Gahden and MSG is a silly comparison except when it comes to the hosting sports and being a train station comparo. One is 80 years old or whatever and was designed for boxing matches, while the other is a 90's precast behemoth capitalizing on the insatiable sports fans of Boston. However, whomever said the garden has too little capacity has a bad short term memory of when neither team could fill it. It is average by both NBA and NHL standards. Comparing MSG and the old Garden made sense as they were built for the same purpose and designed by the same brain.

An ESPN zone or CBS scene or whatever other conglomorate sports bar disaster is full on not necessary in this area. This is one of the areas in town that still maintains it's own Boston originality. Now that Hooters and Coyote Ugly are gone, the area is almost free of corporate bars. Hurricane O'Reillys, The Fours (voted best sports bar in america a few years back), Sullivan's, & even the Greatest Bar (another best sports bar in america winner), are establishments any other city would be jealous of. They are always full before, during, and after games, and do quite well on their own on the weekends. So, fake sports bars are not needed here. Doesn't mean the waterfront couldn't benefit.

A few other points have already been covered, but always could use re-iterating.
WNBA is a joke and will never be profitable.
2 sports arenas for hockey and basketball in this town is unnecessary and a waste of cash.
The Knicks suck.
Residents are needed in the area. Build the damn towers in the parking lots.
Neon lights are not needed, but the new Garden signage at street level is welcome, and green and yellow leds for the team playing are nice.

The Garden is pretty damn boring, ugly, and monolithic. But, it will be here for at least another 15 years based on the current 30 year life span of sports facilities. A decent facelift could go a long way. Additional or new materials could help a lot to break the monotony. Opening concourses up to the outside world helps too. Adding windows, or even fake ones to break the exterior monotony would help.

Done for now....

They still play in the Garden. Their season just ended/is ending.

I think a flaw in this area is that the 3 sporting events that occur here, are during the same time. Hockey, Basketball, Lacrosse. So what happens until the Fall? Just concerts? I don't know what else to fill it in with... But I think we're missing out here during the Summer.

The new Boston Blazers (not affiliated with the old, which I loved going to the games of) play a 12 game season I believe with half of them at the Garden.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

I'm kind of surprised the WNBA is still around. A joke I sometimes use to belittle a friend is "you're about as important as the WNBA playoffs".

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

My recollection is that although the prior version of both the Madison Square Garden and the Boston Garden (originally named "Boston Madison Square Garden") had the same design and were set up for boxing and hockey, their modern day counterparts have no connection, design or otherwise.

You're correct. Not a New Yorker, and I messed up my NY history. MSG III was the 80 year old building I was referring to that never got to be that old as it was torn down long ago. The current MSG is only 42 years young. It is still far from a modern arean with the custonary steep bowl seating we have today. the Boston Madison Square Garden is the one and only we ever has from 1928 - 1997. But has no connection to todays version. Although for a while they used the same parquet floor.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Not a New Yorker? Solid gold free pass to you, my boy!

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

How about some Arena Football guys?

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)
