Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

The bigger problem is that Jacobs owns the Bruins. Terrible owners. Should sell the team to a Bruins fan, instead of someone that simply capitalizes on the zeal of Boston sports fans.

That's the main reason I have refused to go to bruins games. Until the team is sold, I will not support them in any way.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

I have not attended a Bruins game since Weston Adams owned the team. I will not put a penny in Jacobs pocket (other than when I buy food and drink at the Celtics games and concerts there!)

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

When Hooters can't survive in an area of sports maniacs you might want to consider that the planning for this area has become a disaster.

Fair point, but did you ever go to that Hooters? Not a cute girl in the place. In a town full of college coeds I'll never understand how Hooters ended up with a bunch of linebackers for waitresses . . . The new Saugus Hooters seems to be doing a better job, but I've only been once.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

What's interesting is that there are several sports markets where the NHL and NBA team have their own arenas. Detroit, Phoenix, Miami/South Florida and San Jose/Oakland come to mind. Phoenix and Miami/South Florida are both inferior sports markets to Boston.

But I doubt we will ever see each team, the Bruins and the Celtics, getting their own stadium.

The first team that needs a new stadium is the Revolution, second is the Red Sox. As much as I love Fenway, they need a new home.

"I've only been once".....likely story.

I don't go for the food. I go for the scintilating conversation.
(But I do actually like the wings.)

But then, there is the counter example, in Los Angeles. The Staples Center hosts two NBA teams and an NHL team. Most of these venues are empty much of the time, and I personally prefer the less wasteful sharing. It is not similar to the failed efforts made for baseball and football teams to share a stadium. The requirements for hockey and basketball are similar enough, that a single venue can easily suffice for both sports.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Staples Center even hosts a fourth team, from the WNBA. I'd like to see them open a franchise here.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Because nobody outside of BC wants to watch the Eagle and BC is pretty much out in the middle of no where. The Garden however is located near the heart of the city with many restaurants and places to go afterwards.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

north & west end restaurant/bar owners would hate to see the celtics in another part of the city, but if nu wants to replace matthew?s arena with one that can trump bu?s agganis arena, they may want to work w/the celtics. orange, green and commuter rail service. not as good as north station, but not too bad.

That's a reason to hang out in the North End, not to go see a subpar basketball game. If you want to take your kid to an inexpensive basketball game take them to see BC men or women. Parking and dinner will be cheaper.

BC averaged 5600 people last year which puts them in the middle of the pack relative to WNBA teams. Do you think a WNBA team could operate profitably out of the Garden with 5600 fans?

(Btw, not sure why I'm fervently defending BC hoops. I didn't go to school there, but I do enjoy going to athletic events there.)

I'm sure the various South End and Fenway Civic associations would love that. Along with everyone that travels on Mass Ave. Not to mention how popular with the university shakedown circus. Probably would be totally fine without the slightest complaint from the Symphony/Pops as well..........

In other words, NOT A CHANCE IN HELL.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Personally I never liked the TD Banknorth Garden. It looks nice on tv, but in person its a super-sized high school gym. And the whole place is painted Bruins black and gold, which makes Celtics games seem a little awkward.

I'd love to see the C's get their own building, something beautiful and classy like MSG...

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

Efficiency, folks. It's a marriage of necessity. Could a better Bruins owner be found, and could the relationship between the two teams be better? Yes. Ideally, it would be a co-ownership agreement. Won't happen under Jacobs, but whatever.

The Garden is fine - what it really needs is a development in that godawful parking lot. I hate seeing aerials with a lot full of cable television vans right next to the arena.

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

I went to the site listed in the first post. I don't see a page for this project. Was it killed off?

Re: Nashua Street Residences (North Station)

The Celtics and Bruins have both, at various times in their history, played in what is now NU's Matthews Arena.

The seats were originally all yellow. Half were made black when both teams were doing poorly and the obviously thin crowds were embarrassing.

I don't get the enthusiasm for building a whole other arena for basketball. What an inefficient waste of resources - in terms of space, funding, everything. The neighborhoods around both would be dead half the time that the current neighborhood is busy. Makes no sense.

MSG is exactly what the Garden is - hockey, basketball, and a train station underneath - but even uglier.
