Boylston West @ Fenway Triangle (Van Ness) | 1325 Boylston Street | Fenway

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

People in the Fenway who are used to having a real grocery store would notice. Boston needs more grocery stores, not less. With all the new residential units, I think a bigger upgraded super market would be better than a Target.

I am a "person in the Fenway" and I am not used to having a real grocery store (I like Whole Foods, but its selection is just not adequate for daily shopping--Shaws is crap food at crap prices in dingy surroundings).
I agree that a bigger, nicer supermarket (not run by Shaws, please--something more like Wegmans) would be welcome, as would a Target. If one had to choose, a Target with a grocery would be MUCH better than an upgraded Shaws.

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

I agree the Fenway Shaw's isn't the classiest thing in the world, but saying it's not a "real grocery store" is a bit of a stretch.

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

I'm thinking that a Target including some semblance of a grocery component might pressure the old Shaws/Star Market location to upgrade/overhaul - ideally in-line w/the neighborhood, as part of a mixed use development. During development, neighbors wouldn't be entirely w/out a grocer. In a perfect world, such a development would eliminate the parking lot and the GULF station next-door.

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

Wow, they really took an axe to what was originally a pretty attractive and relatively original design. That's pretty damn depressing.

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

Looks like Kairos and his henchmen at the BRA have done their due diligence to dumb this project down. I didn't love the original scheme, but is this an improvement?

Karosyrup flavors the craptextual once again.

Original rendering for those who don't like to dig around (like me). :p

New rendering is literal shit in comparison.

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

I'm all for getting rid of the building Shaws is in, but replacing it with a Target avec grocery section isn't exactly apples to apples--Targets don't have produce sections, or at least I've never seen one. And this would be especially ironic considering it would replace the makeshift farmers market that's been inhabiting the old Goodyear space for the past year or so.

Actually, every Target is being remodeled to add a full grocery section, including fresh meat and produce.

Of course, "Super Target" has always had this, but now EVERY Target is getting it.

However, you misunderstood my point.

I said the Target can be a suitable substitute for the 2 years the Shaws would be out of commission during rebuilding. Currently, if we were to demolish Shaws to build a 10 story building with a basement Shaws, the neighborhood would have zero options for the 2 years of construction. This way, people can do target for their basics and then hit the copley Shaws for the full service in the meantime.

From the BRA website

Fenway Triangle Project Approval Will Continue Boylston Street Transformation
Private investment / Total project cost: $315 million
Total square footage: approx 700,000 sq ft.
Number of jobs:
 construction jobs: 800
 permanent jobs once built: 1200
Housing: 300 rental
The Board approval of the Fenway Triangle Mixed Use Project will further transform Boylston Street into a pedestrian friendly mix of retail, business and residences, in line with the city’s ongoing vision to create a thriving community there.

The $315 million dollar project is being developed by Samuels & Associates and includes two new buildings at 1325 Boylston Street and 132 Brookline Avenue and will replace existing low- rise buildings and parking lots.

The $250 million dollar Boylston Street development will feature two towers up to 168 and 178 feet, with one planned for commercial use and one for residential use with approximately 150 rental units. The plans include 25,000 square feet of ground floor retail, in addition to 140,000 square feet of anchor retail, and a maximum of 575 underground parking spaces.

The $65 million dollar Brookline Avenue site proposal calls for a 17-story building with 5,000 square feet of ground floor retail space and approximately 150 rental units.

Drove by the site yesterday, and it is now surrounded by those concrete blocks marked with jderenzo on them. Could construction be finally starting?

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

Noticed that on my Wednesday commute. The Kilmarnock and Van Ness sides of the site are "enclosed." Let's get to work!

Re: 1325-1341 Boylston St (Fenway Triangle/Former Goodyear Tire)

A friend of mine was looking at an apartment in Trilogy last week and the leasing agent cautioned them that work on this building would be starting this month (November) and be going on for the next couple years. So yes, they're supposed to start work around now.

Yay Fenway!

Watch 5 minutes of House Hunters on HGTV and you'll find that the typical American won't live within 30 miles of a current or future construction site (even in the episodes that are condo/city based).

my gf lives in trilogy currently but is moving out of there to move in with me in a couple weeks. pics would've been cool, but life happens.

Watch 5 minutes of House Hunters on HGTV and you'll want to punch mofos in the face.

I like the show, but people are stupid, lazy, and expect somewhere somehow there is a house prefurnished and designed and built to their exact specifications, tastes, etc. The stuff that people say no to the much better deal on those shows is completely ridiculous.

Of course I may be confusing this with Love it or List it.

Not to nitpick, but a lot of those shows are actually set entirely in Canada. House Hunters isn't, but it's also totally faked and scripted. Rest assured that however Americans may think, it probably isn't like that, I guess... :)
