Re: New BU Tower

I'll admit it looks better in that up close shot. Unfortunately, from the distance I'll usually see it, it looks more like Tai Tung Village in Chinatown.

Re: New BU Tower

im assuming the large glass windows part are common rooms? can't be actual dorms.

There are apartment style rooms, with 4 bedrooms, and a kitchen-living area. Thats probably where the windows are.

Re: New BU Tower

Today. Compared to the Northeastern project this one's a frickin work of art. Of course that ain't saying much.

Re: New BU Tower

Looks better than the hotels down in SBW, but that ain't saying much either.

Re: New BU Tower

From those angles: girthy.

The little awning up top is gimmicky, too.

Re: New BU Tower

personally I would have hated to live in a dorm tower, I lived in a 9 story building and I hated that, waiting for evelators and squeezing in them trying to rush to class at the same time as everyone else, and plus you run into people you don't want to see and have no forewarning about... but I guess if you sign up to go to BU or NE, you gotta expect it. IMO dorms aren't condusive to many floors at all.

I have wondered how many elevators this thing is getting.

Re: New BU Tower

Agreed; I lived in a 15 story building my freshman year of college, and it was rough for many of the reasons you described (and that was when the elevators were actually running). Still, the amenities and spaciousness of this building might make up for it; the building I was in as a freshman was built in the 20s, whereas my junior year I lived in another, newer highrise with fewer residents and more and faster elevators.

Re: New BU Tower

One from last night. Nickerson Field's lights had it looking highly conspicuous.

Re: New BU Tower

With the completion of the Student Village, BU needs to put some serious investment into reclading those West Campus dorms--truly outdated. BU spends millions each year renovating the Bay State and South Campus brownstones (which are gloriously renovated); it wouldn't hurt to match the effort with the larger dorms on campus.

Re: New BU Tower

I'm not sure I like this complex anymore. The cladding looks hideously cheap, and the colors clash horribly (MUCH worse in person - half looks faded yellow, half looks grey). The awnings are truly cheesy gimmicks.

Re: New BU Tower

I agree that the cladding is questionable--i'll reserve judgment on the roof ornamentation until it comes together. It looks decent in the renderings.

Re: New BU Tower

I appreciate the fact that the cladding isn't the same as fab brick of Student Village I. That being said, the first one does look better.

Re: New BU Tower

Thanks for the photo. Driving by it on the Turnpike extension the other night, I got the slender, glassy head on view. That looked very nice. As for the side view: the cladding and slabby caboose, no thanks!

Re: New BU Tower

We can only hope that BU builds yet another tower to hide this thing's ugly ass end.
