Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

I received an e-mail from HYM that they are moving to a different floor in the building "out of the way of the crane" because "it's time to start demolition for the residential building at Bullfinch Crossing."

Whoop whoop!! This is probably my favourite (approved) development in the pipeline (assuming the office tower gets built).

^^Hey there;

How about a shout out for the *4th tallest resident tower in Boston! :)

*rising before Copley Tower, but supplanted by SST.

^because height is everything . And I specifically mentioned the office tower because it is an example of great archetcture (if it gets built). Also it gets rid of the garage that blights the neighborhood and creates a scar between the TD garden area and downtown.

Obviously the Office Tower is the real prize here. However, the residential tower will be MASSIVE in its own right, and a key part in stitching the North Station area into the rest of downtown from a skyline perspective. It's a real stand-out tower that's kind of flying under the radar. For instance, it will be taller than anything built in the 1990's. (~15 year stretch between 1 IP and 111 Huntington)

Anybody have a timeline for when the residential tower should be out of the ground and rising?

^ Yeah, the location is what makes all facets of this development so monumental. That garage really created a dead zone, both in the skyline, as well as in street level relevance between North Sta,/West End and Gov. Center. I agree with DZH that (though await the office tower with excitement), even just the res. tower is a major achievement.

Did they clarify which residential tower goes up first? I see two on the West side of Congress, the mid-rise right at the Sudbury / Congress corner, and then the taller one up Sudbury a bit. I would think the phasing would work better to demolish from the uphill (West) end of Sudbury and work along in an eastward direction, building phases as one goes. That would suggest the tallest residential tower goes first. But I can't find this in all the prior posts, so I'm hoping HYM clarified this in the email to you.

Yes. It is the tallest residential tower that is slated to be constructed first.

This is a new (maybe?) render of phase one only. The residential building is pretty impressive when it's not rendered next to the planned office building.

For some perspective this will be about the same height as Two International Place and One Post Office Square.

So it'll be slightly taller than Exchange Place and 60 State. I'm actually a big fan of the overhangs on this. It really makes the glass box look interesting without trying too hard (like 2 WTC or Back Bay Station tower)

It's 539'. If it topped out today, it would be 10th tallest.

Yeah I think he knows that Whigh he was just making a point about the overall height.

Also side note on the design it is not an all glass tower it is glass and aluminum cladding. It appears the aluminum cladding will be a mix of white on the shortest third, black/dark grey on the middle third, and tan on the tallest third. It looks to me like this should add some good texture to the facade without looking cheap.

To me, the render you posted does not appear to be exactly the same design as the one below.

Really solid development that has gone under the radar compared to the office tower, 1D, hub on causeway, ect. I'm really excited for this project. We are starting to breathe life into a deadzone.

I always mentally think of the Bulfinch triangle being much further away from Haymarket/markets than it actually is. Either my sense of direction/distance sucks or the govt center garage has something to do with it (or both). I for one think just about anything here is a great positive, not to mention the other benefits (more housing, decent looking, more property taxes, more people in the area, ect)
