Development Map and Chart

Re: Development Map

Couple Cambridge corrections/additions:

  • 310 Main Street should be 610 Main Street
  • Mega Lab on Binney Street @ 42.366269,-71.084096
  • Watermark @ 42.363375,-71.082514
  • 150 Second Street @ 42.367087,-71.079019
  • 19 Cambridge Center (I think) @ 42.366096,-71.087889
  • Hideous building at Mass Ave and Mount Auburn @ 42.370414,-71.113035

Thanks, 310 corrected to 610.

Are all of these others proposed? Permitted?

Re: Development Map

All are under construction. The mega lab has it's own thread. The others are all mixed in the Cambridge thread.

Re: Development Map

Wow, Kendall is on fire.

I can't keep track of them, so I didn't even realize. I don't know the area enough.

Thanks for all the updates!

Urb -- pop on over sometime -- there are more cranes in greater Kendall than any part of Boston except for the SPID

And Novartis is still in the pre-foundation stage of development

Re: Development Map

Don't Forget Novartis -- this is mega project with several new buildings, a landscaped coutyard / park, and the renovation of Barta Building on Mass. Ave. (a historic structure the birthplace and nursery of Whirlwind the original real-time computer -- the progenitor of all of todays computers with interactivity from the giant computers doing air traffic control to your ipad and even the engine control in your csr).

The East Campus of the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research exceeds 600 M$ and 550k sq. ft. it is master planned by Maya Lin with Chan Krieger the local architect

The facade of her building on Massachusetts Avenue will be covered with the same type of light-gray granite that was used to construct Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall and many of the bridges in the area.

“The idea is to have the New England stone wall come out of the landscape and gently float up’’ to balance the generous amounts of glass used elsewhere in the complex, Lin said. “We’re trying to create something almost more campuslike in scope and feel. It’s very noncorporate.’

Re: Development Map

Thank to John Keith for the reminder; this map needs updating!

I will do it late tonight. Anyone notice anything in particular that needs to be updated?

Re: Development Map

Similar map to what's out there, showing large Boston residential development projects including approved, completed, under construction, proposed, and under review. (Oh, and "Dead" - Columbus Center.)

Only includes address, size, type (condo or apartment), and address, as of now.

Re: Development Map

Can someone please change the title of this thread to Development Map and Chart? Thanks!

Here's a little pet project: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BostonUrbEx/archBoston

It's very early on, but I thought I'd preview you it to you guys. I need a whole heap of information, so any help is greatly appreciated.

This is also something I can imagine us fine tuning and then carrying it over to a page here, such as archboston.org/chart/ or something.

Nice job. This is great.

Nice job. This is great.

Thanks! Glad to a positive reaction so quickly. :)

I made a large-ish update! Any help will filling in ?'s or Unkown's would be hugely appreciated. Please try to be as current as possible (I haven't used anything dated earlier than Summer 2012).

Also, any suggestions on default order? I'm thinking either alphabetical by project name or in order by height. Not a big deal though, seeing as you can sort it yourself any way you want.

This should knockout a few of the ?'s

Bump. I'm going to need alot of help updating this since I've been inactive until recently. If you have any new projects to add, I'll also need a link to the topic and for you to be as specific about the location as possible. If you're a well establish aB member, I'll see if I'm able to invite you to be a contributor and editor if possible.

I can help out on the Wikipedia and Emporis side of the house. Just feed me the info with reliable references. Some of my works or works I've improved:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Massachusetts,_exclusive_of_Boston

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_in_Cambridge,_Massachusetts

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_in_Portland,_Maine (under construction)

I've also fixed a lot of stuff and added buildings to Emporis.

John, you actually did a development Google Map too right? I remember you posting it on Twitter. Might be helpful to share that too and get all the info into one. =)

These spreadsheets are wonderful btw. Cleaner than the one I tried to compile for our archBoston.org master project list. Thanks for sharing.

John, these spreadsheets are fantastic! Thank you for sharing! One suggestion I would make is perhaps combining them into one Google Doc with different sheets (example: Sheet 1 = Boston-Complete; Sheet 2 = Boston-UC; Sheet 3 = Boston-AppProp, etc.).

I'd be interested in creating something that chronicles all the new developments (large project) by year, to get a better idea of how successful Boston has been at adding new housing inventory over time. Unless somebody else is up for the challenge, perhaps I'll take a crack at it when I finish finals and projects the next couple weeks.

I've imported a copy of the Boston assessment records into a database. That has "year built" as a field. I'll see if it's useful.
