Dorchester Infill and Small Developments

It's really hard to tell from the pictures. I'll have to stop by next time I'm in town.

Architecturally, and functionally, it's a better situated intermodal station than Kenmore.

It takes up quite a bit more space than Kenmore, which probably makes it easier to accommodate the multi-modes.

I'm an occasional user of this station, particularly on the Mattapan trolley, and the combination of renovations plus the apartment building has really improved the urban look and feel of the area.

HenryAlan do you miss the enclosed side by side transfer from the mattapan line to redline?

I suppose I would if I made the transfer. When I ride the trolley, Ashmont is my destination (with a bit of walking to follow). I'm not sure what sort of impact that change has for day to day commuters.

I was google touristing today, and came across this development in Edward Everett Sq:

Anyone know what this is and what the status is? Looks like an interesting addition to this area... (notice also the giant pear to the right of this streetview as well)

Im afraid its not new.

Go back in time 3 years and it looks exactly the same

They been trying to finish something here for about ten years. The globe did an article on it about a year ago.It was suppose to be apartments but that fell through. Now its houses a nice little (cheap) market with free parking in the back.

I believe it is the infamous Edward M. Kennedy Center for the Senate and Blah Blah. I can't remember the name. It is really Sen. Splash's I Wasn't President yet it acts like a Presidential Library.

Senator Splash ... that's great. I'm surprised I haven't heard that one from Howie yet.

I think he named his Water Dog Splash as well. I'll go if they have a bloop reel somewhere in the exhibit.

The first photo is the building (or former) building of C. Butts Realtors, a realty company that made their money the old fashioned way, by blockbusting.

It looks about as urban as Newton Centre, with less vitality.

If it doesn't have a massive, soul sucking parking lot as its centrepiece, it'll be more urban than Newton Centre.

Instead of Newton, it would be better to try to emulate Waltham Center, specifically Moody Street. These areas have the ethnic diversity needed to become a restaurant destination (see also Inman Square or Union Square in Somerville).

Yes, but as someone who grew up within a few hundred feet of here, no one will be willing to dine on Washington Street, other than at the take out places, until you remove the potential for rapid lead poisoning from the area. The Ashmont Grill is very close to here, yet the violent element is kept in check in Peabody Square to a much greater degree than in Codman Square.

Newton Center and Moody Street 60 years ago were considered equals in terms of shopping destinations as this area. My how times have changed.

Construction has apparently begun on the triangular parcel between Codman Sq and the future Fairmount Line Stop. 24 affordable units.
